Decorate Your Dorm for Halloween
The leaves are changing, pumpkin spice is in the air, and now that we’re halfway through October, it’s time to prepare for Halloween. ‘Tis the season for decorating your dorm with the spookiest of fall decor. Don't worry! These decorations will be easy to make or cheap to buy. Here’s how to bring a cozy hometown Halloween feel to your college dorm.
Halloween and Autumn Style Pillows
Deck out your bed with Halloween pillows. This is a go-to decoration because they’re reusable and easy to put together— just throw them on your bed or chair. LIM student Gabriella has already decked out her bed with fall-themed pillows, as seen in this photo. How adorable!
Halloween Lights
Lights are one of the easiest ways to decorate for any holiday, especially when Halloween comes around. As Halloween’s colors are purple and orange, grab a strand or two of battery-powered LEDs from Amazon or Target and you’ll be lit for Halloween. If you want to go all out, you can purchase autumn leaf lights to really have your dorm room feeling like fall. You can also get creative with your lights by putting them in jars—it makes for a great spooky lantern decoration.
Treat Yourself with Candy Jars
Remember the days when you would dress up and go trick-or-treating? The best part had to have been the free candy. Sadly, trick or treating is all just a sweet memory now—no more free candy. However, there’s a way to relive those cherished memories as a college student embracing spooky season. Turn candy into decor with mason jars or a bowl and any sweets you like. Colorized candy jars make for not only sweet treats, but elegant decorations. There’s also the option to decorate your jar with paint or stickers if you’re feeling crafty, then fill it with your favorite treats (like candy corn). You’ll be stocked for the Halloween season and have treats to share with guests, your roommates, or keep all the candy to yourself.
Paint a Pumpkin
The tradition of pumpkin carving can get too messy for a dorm room, and of course there’s that unpleasant smell that comes along with it. So paint them! Yes, paint can get messy too, but if you lay down some newspaper and paint the pumpkin somewhere other than the floor, you should be all right. These adorable pumpkin designs can allow you to get creative and match the decor in your room, depending on what color paint you use. The “self care pumpkin” is super cute, making for a trendy look compared to the old-fashioned triangle eyed jack-o-lantern. If you aren’t super artistic, don’t worry. The marbled pumpkin has a great decorative look and is extremely easy to make—all you need to do is pour different colored paint over the pumpkin to give it that design. After letting these painted pumpkins dry, you’ll have all the decorations you need to make your dorm filled with spooky autumn cheer.
