The Best of Instagram Beauty
Instagram is a never-ending stream of inspiration. When the social media platform launched its “save” feature in 2016, it made revisiting old posts much easier. Now we are even able to divide posts into collection such as Outfits, Home, Lifestyle, and of course, Beauty. Thanks to the saturated industry of influencers and change of algorithm on Instagram, it may be harder to find accounts that genuinely inspire us. So, in this article, I have rounded up some of my favorite beauty accounts—allow me to show you there that the beauty world of Instagram goes beyond Glossier and Kylie Cosmetics.
Violet Grey
Violet Grey is part editorial, part e-commerce brand. Their Instagram presence is a highly curated selection of all of the best luxury beauty products. “The Industry’s Beauty Edit” provides endless product shots, behind-the-scenes content and exclusive interviews with industry leaders. The account also features links to shop the amazing products that they recommend. (Or as they put it, products that are #violetcodeapproved.) You can even read more on The Violet Files, their editorial site linked in their bio. If you are ever in L.A., I highly recommend visting their boutique!
2. Tatiana Rose Art
Tatiana Rose is a makeup artist and photographer based in Sydney, Australia. She is hands down one of my favorite artists to follow on Instagram. Tatiana is well known for her disco-esque, artistic and vintage inspired looks, along with plenty of glamour shots. Her work is truly unlike anything I have ever seen before as the content fills my feed with beautiful splashes of color.
3. Chantecaille
As I’m trying to be more aware of the products I’m using, Chantecaille has become one of my favorite brands. They frequently post about their 100% cruelty-free products and new Philanthropy Eye Collection which honors Africa’s most endangered species in order to support conservation charities. If you love beauty and animals, this the brand to follow!
4. Chiao Li Hsu
Makeup Artist Chiao Li Hsu grew up in the Netherlands but is now based in NYC. Her use of shape and color through images never fails to inspire me to shake up my makeup routine. In fact, most of my saved beauty inspo consists of her work.
5. Rachael Krutchkoff
@Rocky_Mua is also one of my favorite makeup artists. Based in NYC, Rachael does makeup for major campaigns. For instance, she recently did work for Parade, Marc Jacobs, and Milk Makeup.
6. Shiseido
Shiseido is a Japanese beauty brand that relaunched in 2018. The relaunch featured products divided into four groups: Gels, Dews, Powders, And Inks. The brand also re-released its very successful complexion line this fall with 30 shades, which is a huge step in the right direction for an Asian brand. (I am actually their Social Media Intern, so having seen the creativity and work behind all their posts, it’s hard not to mention them.)
7. Violette Serrat
Violette is a French makeup artist and the global beauty director at Estée Lauder. Along with the beautiful makeup looks and editorial features she shares on her feed, Violette reposts others’ content that inspires her, which is one of my favorite things about her page.
