Top 5 Affordable Spring Break Destinations

It’s almost Spring Break time—are you ready? Finally, a chance to take a week off from the daily routine and explore a city where the temperatures are warmer and the pressure is lighter. Some may opt for a staycation, but why not get out of town for a while? I gathered my top five places for the best spring break on a budget. With a chance to head to Florida, South Carolina, or Louisana, why not take the trip?

I planned the trip for March 16th-20th. I looked at the best flight options; as a New Yorker, these would be flights out of Laguardia (airport code: LGA), and cheapest hotel or Airbnb. Other factors to take into consideration are food, activities, and Ubers/walking. I would estimate about $40-$60 for food a day, depending on if you’re going to eat out or possibly have some food at your hotel. These might not be the most luxurious trips, but it’s an adventure.

Another positive for the beachy destinations—beaches are free. This may be the best activity option, as it will be the cheapest, other than window shopping or walking around town. Plus, who doesn’t want to come home with a tan?

Option 1: Miami, Florida

Miami is a very popular option for beaches. If you’re looking for some fun and sun, this is one of the best options.

Option 2: Orlando, Florida

Orlando is well-known for Disney World. If you have a little extra money, maybe spend one day at Magic Kingdom, or there’s Disney Springs which has free entrance. The hotel I found is in Kissimmee, right outside of Orlando, which is another activity-filled location.

Maingate Florida Hotel: $35/night

Hotel Perks: Pool at the hotel, close to Capone’s Dinner show, Congo River Golf, Old Town, and Kissimmee Lakefront Park.

Option 3: Tampa, Florida

Many of these options are beach heavy, and Tampa is another one worth adding to your list. The flight is a little cheaper than Miami and the hotel option is about the same.

Flight: $118 (roundtrip)

Rodeway Inn Fairgrounds: $60/night

Hotel Perks: Close to Florida State Fairgrounds, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, and Adventure Island. There is also a pool at the hotel if you’d rather not leave for the day.

Option 4: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Another beach option, but this time not in Florida! Personally, this one might be my favorite beach option.

Flight: $123 (roundtrip)

Bermuda Sands on the Boardwalk: $30/night

Hotel Perks: This one has two pools. It is close to Downtown Myrtle Beach, Family Kingdom Amusement Park, and the Myrtle Beach boardwalk.

One of the best things about this option is pretty much everything is in walking distance, so no need to spend an excessive amount on uber or lyft rides.

Option 5: New Orleans, Louisana

I want to also provide an option that isn’t just for the beach, or in Florida. This is for the spring-breakers looking to do something a little different, but equally exciting. Who wouldn’t want to spend the day walking around Bourbon Street? The only downside is that the housing situation is not extremely Instagrammable for this trip, but it is one of the best financial options I could find for a place to stay.

Studio 6 New Orleans: $46/night

Hotel Perk: Close to downtown and the French Quarter!

Out of these five, where would you choose? Or, where would you head to that I didn’t mention?
