Team Coco Orange is the Shade of the Summer
As June begins and the summer commences, we start to look at our wardrobe and keep tabs on the color trends through the season. As we know, a summer palette includes bright and warm tones, but for this summer, orange is the most popular in the crayon box. More specifically Team Coco Orange from Pantone as seen in The Lexington Line Spring/Summer ‘22 print issue and in “Pantone’s Color of the Year Very Peri” written by Lauren Smelker.
The Pantone color was created by comedy talk show host Conan O'Brien and the Team Coco brand. Vice President of Pantone Color Institute Laurie Pressman describes it as “Good-natured and expansive, friendly and gregarious, Conan’s Team Coco Orange is an energizing and fearless orange tone with a touch of tang.” Team Coco Orange is the epitome of a summer orange, but the color in terms of fashion always seems to be a hit or miss for people’s stylistic choices.

We tend to associate the color orange with the sun as it can bring us energy and ease—which are usually the feelings that are evoked in the summertime. History and psychology can tell us why the color is the perfect focus for the current season. “Orange conveys energy, enthusiasm, and balance. It has less intensity or violence than red, and is calmed by the happiness of yellow,” informs Web Exhibits.
The connection between color and fashion heavily influences how we dress—even if we don’t realize it. Deciding to include a pop of orange when picking out your look for the day proclaims to yourself and the world that you’re confident and ready to take on the day.
“By nature, orange elicits feelings of warmth, excitement, and amusement,” reveals My Modern Met. Artists like Monet, Gauguin, Renoir, and Toulouse-Lautrec used color to great effect. Monet incorporated orange into his sunsets, while Toulouse-Lautrec used the color to symbolize the frenetic energy of Parisian dance halls.”
