Since 1967, the Super Bowl has been the biggest event in professional football. Each team playing won the title as the best in their respective conference, the AFC and NFC

Super Bowl LIX was held in New Orleans at Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025.

Before the big game, the Kansas City Chiefs had a 15-2 season record and the Philadelphia Eagles had a 14-3 season record. Despite their records, the Eagles were picked to win by an average of 2.2 points  (56.1%)  over the Chiefs (43.9%).

Sunday marked the fifth Super Bowl in six years for the Chiefs, winning two titles in the last two years. This third win would make them the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. The Eagles are first in the league in terms of defense (278.4 yards per game), and this would be their second Super Bowl win.

With a combined win percentage of .872, the two teams met for the second time in three seasons. Their matchup in Super Bowl LVII made history as the third most points scored in a Super Bowl with a combined 73 points.

On the Wednesday before the game (2/5/2025), Chiefs passing coordinator Joe Bleymaier explained how it feels to have the pressure of having one of the best quarterbacks in the league play in the Super Bowl.

“You feel the burden as a coach and as you're putting a game plan together to not waste his abilities. To not go through a season where you don't give him the opportunity. To not screw it up as the coaching staff,” He said. “So rather than feeling like this just unbridled excitement that we could do anything, it's actually more like a terror, like we cannot be the reason that we screwed this guy up or this team up.”

In the first quarter, Philadelphia started out strong with their first touchdown made by Quarterback Jalen Hurts. This created a seven-point deficit with 6:15 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Eagles kicker, Jake Elliot, kicked a 48-yard field goal due to a penalty from Kansas, making the score 10-0. Soon after, Philadelphia cornerback and punt returner, Cooper DeJean, made a 38-yard interception return, also known as a pick-six, driving in a touchdown.

The Eagles weren’t messing around in the second quarter with yet another touchdown made possible by Hurts, run in by wide receiver A.J. Brown.  In the first half alone, the Eagles piled up 179 yards.

An iconic performance from 22-time Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar broke up the two halves. The performance included cameos from SZA, Samuel L. Jackson, Serena Williams, and the highly anticipated song, “Not Like Us.”

Starting the second half, and the third quarter, Elliot makes another field goal, this time 29 yards. The score was 27-0, but only for a short while since DeVonta Smith ran in another touchdown after a 46-yard pass from Jalen Hurts

Many thought this was going to be another scoreless quarter for the Chiefs, but Kansas’ wide receiver, Xavier Worthy, managed to score a touchdown from a  24-yard pass from Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. This left the score at 6-37 going into the final quarter.

Two more field goals were made by the Eagles Kicker, making the score 40-6 with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.

At this point, many thought that the Eagles would secure the win, and they would be right. Although Kansas managed two more touchdowns in the last three minutes of the game, their score wouldn’t come close to the Eagles.

The final score of the game was 22-40, with the Philadelphia Eagles winning.

Hurts won MVP, as he is said to have led the team to their second win in franchise history. He completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns.

"God is good -- even in the highs and the lows," Hurts said. "[I] couldn't be here without my teammates. The effort, the determination everybody displayed to get to this point. It's never been about what any one of us does, it's always been about what we do and how we're responding to certain things. Hell of a game today."
