Beauty Buzz: This Season's 7 Latest Crazes
In these chilly winter months, we may find ourselves needing to layer up until we are beyond recognition. If you feel as though you’re unable to wholly express yourself through your winter wardrobe, consider playing around with this season’s makeup trends to give yourself a little added oomph. I’ve rounded up 7 of my favorite makeup looks of the moment that are sure to add a little dash of extra to even the dullest of outfits.
1. Glossy Lips
We should thank the Makeup Gods for this one. A few years back, matte lipstick was key to mastering the perfect winter vibe. Fortunately, we can put cracked lips aside for a while as high gloss is back and here to stay. If you like a thick, moisturizing formula like me, Glossier’s It’s the Glossiest lip gloss is the product for you.
2. Subtle Highlight
When it comes to extreme highlighters, we’ve been there, we’ve done that, we’ve been blinded. This winter, it’s all about soft, natural highlighters that create a subtle glow on the high points of the face. Check out this soft powder from Bobbi Brown. Pro tip: if you don’t have an actual highlighter, a little dab of coconut oil works well in its place.
3. Dewy Skin
Similar to blinding highlighters, full coverage foundation is taking a back seat this season. Thanks to influences from stars like Billie Eilish, and from brands like Glossier, rocking natural, dewy skin is in. For this trend, hydration is key; I recommend opting for a reliable tinted moisturizer or BB cream, like Charlotte Tilbury’s Unisex Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer.
4. Pink Eyeshadow
This eyeshadow trend has dominated in 2018, and this winter it is still the reigning champ. Blush-pinks, mauves, maroons, and other sunset shades have proven themselves and can look romantic or fierce depending on application. Urban Decay’s Naked Cherry palette that dropped last month plays perfectly with these trendy hues.
5. Vivid Blush
For a while, blush was on the backburner as everyone was perfecting their contouring skills. Now, plums and rosy shades of blush seem to be making a comeback, and many seem unafraid to lay it on heavy. To master the chilly weather flush, try NAR’s NARSissit Wanted Cheek Palette.
6. Appliques
Getting a little extra glitzy for the holidays is nothing new, but the seasonable resurgence of this trend is still something to note. Using a dollop of eyelash glue, try applying cosmetic-grade rhinestones around your eyes. The inner and outer corners are popular places to apply these 3D additions. To keep your gems in place, Ardell’s Duo Lash Adhesive in Clear is your best bet.
7. Rainbow Eyes
Even though neutrals are a timeless classic for fall and winter, the makeup community has shaken things up a bit this year. Bright eyeshadow looks featuring every color of the rainbow have stuck since they became hot this summer. Morphe recently collaborated with sister James Charles, bringing us a killer eyeshadow palette that covers all color bases.
