A Millinery Resurgence
Baseball caps and beanies have been some of the only headgear anyone has dared to wear in the past decade. Millinery was once a booming business, however, with the athleisure trend at the forefront we don’t see many breathtaking hat innovations.
But, there has been a change in the wind.
Designers have been branching out lately by including various styles of headwear in their collections.
It was thrilling to find vinyl and patterned sailor caps, pastel bucket hats, and a hat Jeannie the genie would’ve loved amongst all the excessive basics. These kitschy French inspired hat creations are being made in Los Angeles by Olivia Latinovich. Hats were going to be huge this year and she picked up on this movement early.
“After seeing the insane feather hats in Valentino’s haute couture SS 2018 collection, I was pretty much sold. I felt that the world was ready for hats again.” said Latinovich.
These extravagant designs were featured in WWD, I-D Vice, and The Wild Magazine. If you’re looking to branch out, these hats are your big-ticket item.
