Beer is known to have beneficial effects when it comes to skin and hair. Beer contains protein which can bring strength to your hair. It also has an acidic pH that helps to tighten cuticles and brings shine to your hair. Beer also contains hops, which serve as natural astringents.

Below you will find a few methods on how to treat your hair based on what you are looking to achieve.

Define Curls

Hands up if you’re a curly girl! Let’s help bring life back to your curls through a hydration mixture. Start off with boiling one liter of water along with a glass of beer and lemon juice. Wash your hair the way you normally would and after rinsing out shampoo, add the mixture by working your way down from the root to the tip of your hair. Do this about three times a week and your curls will be back and better than ever.

Dry and Damaged Ends

If you’re like me and have used a straightener one too many times this week, try mixing 2 tablespoons of olive oil with a glass of beer. Apply the mixture like a hair mask three times a week and it will help revive your damaged hair and bring back volume.

Straighten and Shape

Looking for straighter hair and adding some shape and definition? Start by dividing your hair between four and six parts and applying the full contents of a bottle of beer to your hair. After about five minutes of letting it soak, rinse with cold water. This method will leave your hair with fantastically defined results.

You may be thinking, will this really work?

Justine Sterling, author at Thrillist, decided to put the beer-hair remedies to the test by washing her hair with beer for a whole week. In the beginning, she found that her hair felt softer and easy to comb through when dry. After the first few days, she found her hair smelling of beer, but still felt it was nourishing her hair. By the last day, she saw a decrease in the amount of flyaways and her hair had a beautiful sheen and looked healthier overall. Reflecting on the process, she was able to see that her hair felt much healthier after that week than it did at the beginning.

If you’re not ready to fully dive into this process, try implementing it into your routine once a week and then gradually adding it in more. As shown, washing your hair with beer does have its benefits! If you want to begin your journey to healthier hair, click this link!
