Blackpink's Lisa: The Newest Face of MAC Cosmetics
K-pop has become increasingly popular in the past few years and is quickly taking over the world. One dynamic group, Blackpink, is a K-pop girl group with four talented singers; Lisa, Rose, Jennie and Jisoo. Considered to be one of the “biggest K-pop girl bands on the planet” according to Vogue, they recently released a new album titled “Lovesick Girls” along with a new documentary released on Netflix called “Blackpink: Light up the Sky,” both of which received high praise from their supporters.
Lisa is considered to be the lead artist of the group, what with having the capability to rap and sing in four different languages—Thai, Korean, English and Japanese. She is also an ambassador for high-end retail brands BVLGARI and Celine, and is now adding cosmetic brand MAC to her elite list. With over 40 million followers on Instagram, Lisa is the very first K-pop artist MAC has ever collaborated with, and she is now signed to a long-term contract with the brand. Known for her vibrant and daring style, she fits MAC’s persona as they are full of creativity, diversity and confidence.
Elle magazine wrote, “For MAC, it was Lisa's "unparalleled talent and bold, fashion-forward style,” says Drew Elliott, senior vice president and global creative director for MAC Cosmetics. “Always confident and never one to shy away from risks, she embodies our commitment to celebrating individuality and self-expression above all else.’” Her page on the MAC website reads “For The Love of Lisa,” referencing her multiple song titles and albums with the word ‘love’ in it.
Currently on the website, they have a list of her favorite MAC products so fans can purchase and replicate her signature look. This list includes purple hues in shades “Espresso” and “Stars N’ Rockets” for eyeshadow, paired with a liquid sparkle shimmer in “Dazzle Shadow” to layer over the lid, finished off with a neutral matte lipstick in “Powder Kiss.” MAC has hinted at her coming out with her own collection in the future. However, my guess is that her collection got postponed just like other cosmetic releases due to COVID-19. I am excited to see what shades she might have in mind for her own collection, and we can definitely expect a lot of vibrancy and pigment to be included in her line.
