NYFW Fall 2020: Christian Sirirano, Monse, Christopher John Rogers, and Brandon Maxwell
February 6:
Christian Siriano’s show was sponsored by Birds of Prey, Margo Robbie’s latest film in which she plays Harley Quinn. The show took place at Spring Studios in New York and the studio was decorated with props from the movie. The collection took inspiration from the DC villain. We saw chokers, chain dealing, black drawn-on-hearts as well as colorful hair streaks. Siriano still continues to design for all shapes and sizes and this was evident in his Fall 2020 collection. The glittery, silky, and reflective pieces were lovely and cohesive, although some of his fabric choices were poor and some of the clothing’s proportions didn’t make sense. Siriano should’ve ditched the pieces that were lackluster and focused on the parts of his collection that shined.
February 7:
Fernando Garcia’s and Laura Kim’s inspiration for their Monse F/W 2020 RTW collection was the punk scene and the Wes Anderson film Fantastic Mr. Fox. The looks consisted of tartan patterns, fishnets, chunky boots and safety pins. Monse’s trenches are a key item and this season they’ve transformed them in a deconstructed fashion with tartan fabric and animal print.

Christopher John Rogers was the winner of last years CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund, which led him to create a wonderful ‘80s infused dream. The voluminous sleeves have been some of Christopher John Rogers’s bestsellers and were included in his F/W 2020 collection. He told Vogue that he was inspired by garbage bags for this collection because they reminded him of the curtains that were in renaissance paintings. Apparently, garbage bags that are crumbled up evoke that same energy. The orange, fuchsia, and violet colors he used were vibrant and had the fabric had a pearlescence to it. This collection has proven how captivating of a designer Christopher John Rogers truly is and that he was well deserving of his CFDA Award.
Brandon Maxwell chose the American Museum of Natural History as the setting for their F/W 2020 collection. The silhouettes in this collection were simple but the luxe fabric elevated the looks. Some of the elements did stand out, like the over-sized collars. The collection included vinyl-like tortoiseshell, suede and velvety corduroy and had a mix of day and night looks ideal for the most stylish of New York women.
