Quarantine Bucket List: Unique Activities & Talents to Pick Up
Have you finished binge-watching everything on Netflix? Is corona-boredom sweeping over you? Then a bucket list may be the perfect solution for the 24-hour indoor day. There are obvious, mundane things to do with this newfound time. But, if we don’t settle for the mundane in our regular routines, why start now? This indeterminable amount of time is a gift. It’s a time to better ourselves. It’s a time to finally pick up that hobby we’ve always wanted. If you’re searching for exciting creative outlets, here are unique suggestions to add to your quarantine bucket list.
Become an Ordained Minister (Online!)
Is this anyone else’s random life goal? Becoming ordained online is as easy as filling out a free application through a verified website (check your state requirements). Then you’ll be able to officiate weddings for friends and family, joining the likes of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the ministry community.
Take Up Calligraphy
Okay, it’s absurd to assume everyone has the proper instruments (and patience) to fully immerse themselves into calligraphy. But with pens and thousands of YouTube tutorials, this simplified skill can be added to your repertoire. Inspirational signs, thank you cards, and personalized Bullet Journals will start stacking up.
Watch Cult Movies
The Room, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Sharknado, and Cats are premium additions for your movie lineup during this abnormal time. Whether you’re already a fan of these quirky films or have been curious about their cult followings, commit some time to fully dive into the madness.
Learn Sign Language
Learning a new language is a popular goal. But learning American Sign Language (ASL) will expand beyond a personal asset, helping serve and communicate with a marginalized community. Sound overwhelming? Great! This is the perfect time to challenge yourself.
Try the OG Workout Video
While gyms are closed, an old-school home workout with blood-pumping gyration is a worthy option. Jane Fonda’s best-selling VHS workout tape is one that will whip you into shape and provide an overwhelming dose of the ‘80s. Fonda’s classes can be found on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, or on her new TikTok account—legwarmers not included… but highly suggested.
Concoct a Signature Cocktail
For the 21-pluses, consider pooling together your (remaining) alcohol collection to create a signature cocktail. And, if alcohol is not your vice, concoct a “mocktail.” Dig out blue-cheese-stuffed olives, orange peels, or cocoa powder and taste test until you’ve perfected your creation. Voila, a new party trick!
Create Blackout Poetry
Reading and journaling are some of the more popular solutions to combat creative blocks. However, if that’s not refreshing enough, consider picking up a forgotten book and blacking out the lines with a Sharpie. Let your mind takeover as you leave your favorite words untouched and subconsciously create new poems.
Give Yourself Bangs
Dramatic hair transformations following heartbreak has crossed over into this emotionally ravaging quarantine. But this time, people are cutting their own bangs, an apparent ill-advised decision. TikTok has outstanding proof of this. But, hey! Now may be the best time to try a new look without having to suffer from sidewalk stares.
Learn a Family Recipe
If you’re missing a grandmother’s lasagna or a cousin’s cookies, which you might not crave otherwise, pick up the phone and ask them for their special recipes. If they don’t divulge their secret ingredient or if your pantry is running low, pick up some alternatives and add a twist to your favorite classic recipes.
Get Involved with a Cause
Now is the time to explore our humanitarian sides. Consider your passions, the current state of the world, and the future you hope for. There is a plethora of causes you can support, all right from your home. Signing petitions, advocating through social media, or donating to those on the front lines of any cause are simple yet incredibly helpful acts.
