Lady Gaga Performs the National Anthem Again…As She Should.
Today is a joyful day for many, the inauguration of Joe Biden as President and Kamala Harris as Vice President of the United States. Many gathered for the inauguration to witness this amazing event and hear the National Anthem, "Star-Spangled Banner," sung by Lady Gaga, at the symbolic Capitol building.
Lady Gaga was selected to perform the "Star-Spangled Banner," and based on her 2016 performance at the Super Bowl, people were excited to hear her powerhouse-voice and honor the day.
Gaga was accompanied by the President's own United States Marine Band for this lovely and historical performance. If you did not watch the Inauguration Live or missed the performance, watch the video now!
Now that you have witnessed that greatness, let's chat. Almost every singer that steps to the stage for sporting or political events attempts to change the sound of the final lyrics, "for the land of the free and the home of the brave," so there is no “correct” way to sing this. However, the most notable is when the final notes are belted out with strength and grace—just as Gaga did.
Her Inauguration performance was more playful than most, as she included theatrical hand gestures and shorter runs of lyrics. Like her golden dove broach that she wore on her chest, this performance was most likely a way of showing how happy she and many Americans felt today and the hope for a peaceful presidency.
What a performance. Gaga has christened 2021 and has set happy and hopeful thoughts in motion for America at the start of Biden's presidency.
