A Glimpse into Neo-Soul

Since the ‘90s, alternative R&B subgenres like Neo-Soul have steadily gained popularity. The neo-soul genre opened doors for women of color to venture into the music industry and come into their power through song. From the iconic musical stylings of Erykah Badu to the modern sounds of UMI, the neo-soul sound has come a long way. To celebrate the underrated artists of this genre and honor black musicians, I styled a few of my friends and took some photos. Here is the music we jammed to while shooting.
