Waxed Girl Summer

I’m no stranger to waxing. I’ve been getting my eyebrows waxed since I was in middle school, and I’ve gotten other parts of my body waxed, like my back and stomach. But the Brazilian wax felt like an enemy to me. It seemed as though the pain I may endure might not be worth the outcome. However, as I’ve grown older, I’ve hated shaving more and more. So, I figured I could give the Brazilian wax a try, and if it was as bad as I expected it to be, my razor and I could reunite.

I did massive amounts of research before my appointment, and what stood out the most to me from each article I read was, “it will hurt like hell.” I felt safer knowing my friend was going with me; she’d be in the same building experiencing the same hell that I would be. Once we booked our appointment, there was no going back. Here are the three parts of the Brazilian wax saga to get you prepped for your first appointment!

Preparation

On the day of the appointment, I showered about two hours before my waxing. I had read online that this will help clean you up, but it also will open up the pores. The opening of the pores will allow the hair to be pulled out easier, creating a much less painful experience. My other day-of preparation tip was to take some Advil about 30 minutes before the appointment. Will I ever really know if these two preparation steps helped? Not for sure, but I’m sure as hell not going to go again without them.

The Appointment

I had done lots of reading of reviews prior to picking Waxxpot. Not only did I want to find someone who would do a good job, but I wanted someone who would make me feel calm and relaxed, and that was exactly what I had experienced. I spent most of my session laughing and talking, and I nearly forgot that I was in the middle of getting a Brazilian.

A lot of friends asked me afterward if I felt uncomfortable that I was half-naked during my appointment. And honestly, not at all. This is what these specialists do, and they really don’t care what you look like. They’re just there to do their job.

Aftermath

I did feel a bit sore walking out of the room, but nothing unbearable. As I was checking out, I decided to buy some soothing cream just in case. It’s been about five days post-wax, and I’ve had no bumps or issues, and that soreness went away after the first day. On the day of the appointment, I had avoided exercising once I was finished with my wax to prevented any trouble. It was the perfect excuse for a lazy night in.

Overall, I would totally do this again. The price is a little steep ($50 an appointment), but that is often what is to be expected. I have booked a second appointment, which is to happen four weeks later, and I was told that these appointments get easier and easier. If I had to rate the pain from 1 being nothing to 10 being the worst pain of my life, I’d give it a 5-6. Some spots were a lot easier than others, but it definitely wasn’t the hell I’d expected. For anyone considering giving this a shot, I’d say go for it. You’ll never know what you’re missing out on until you try it.
