Parentsite: Gossip Girl 1.06 Recap
Hey GG fans, were you starting to get a little bored? If so, don’t you worry, because this episode really turned things up a notch. Move over Chuck and Blair, there’s a new It couple, and it involves three people. But maybe I’m getting ahead of myself.
Julien’s thinking about her future, and in her dad’s mind, that means college. But Julien’s wishing for a different dream: full time content creator. Of course, parents wouldn’t understand how an influencer job could set us up for life, but Julien’s ready to prove to him how serious she’ll take this.
Audrey’s dealing with her mom being in the hospital, and who better to comfort her than Aki and Max? Oh, how we love our favorite throuple. But for Max, he’s getting haunted by his teacher fling. Rafa’s not going to let him get away so easily, and he’ll do whatever it takes to get his revenge. Whether it be sending out a rumor that Max has an STI or meeting up with Max’s dad for a quick rendezvous, he’s prepared for a battle.
Zoya and her dad both seem to be facing trouble in their love lives. For her dad, Kate Keller is the new prize in his eyes. For Zoya, she’s looking to win over Obie’s mom, who just flew in town. Obie seems set on keeping Zoya away from her, which we learn is because he’s too much of a coward to show who he really is and what he cares about. But Zoya won’t let him stop her, and she ends up scoring an invite to a family dinner. Good thing Zoya has Julien still by her side, helping her through it. But Julien wouldn’t be doing this for her own motives, would she?
Luna aids Julien in finding the perfect collaboration to take her brand to the next level. Oh, how we miss Monet by her side. When can we expect our favorite mean girl to return?
At the family dinner, Aki and Obie’s families are both in attendance, along with Zoya and Audrey. Zoya has no problem giving out her judgement on Aki’s dad’s company. We find out that the company is facing a lawsuit for having issues with the LGBTQ+ community. Of course, since Obie can never seem to speak his thoughts, he has a problem with Zoya sharing hers. I mean, c’mon, someone’s got to put that man in his place. And little miss blabbermouth, Audrey, accidentally spills Aki’s true sexuality. It was no boring dinner, that’s for sure.
Following dinner, Obie meets Julien to blame her for his relationship issues. Julien claims she was only trying to help, but as she admitted to her dad, she still has feelings for Obie.
Things aren’t going so well for Zoya’s dad either. One of the teachers spots Kate out with him, and he forces her to shut down that relationship. How can they be Gossip Girl if they become an insider? It would for a Mr. Humphrey, once upon a time, but seemingly won’t work for Miss Keller.
The last fifteen minutes of this episode are completely jaw dropping, and it starts with Obie protesting on one of his mother’s properties. They’re closing down a homeless shelter in order to build condos, and once Julien spots him there, she goes to join the protest. When Zoya sees Obie there, she decides to go meet him as well. As you can guess, this doesn’t end well. When Zoya sees them, she realizes how Julien still loves Obie. And later, after Zoya leaves, Obie ends up kissing Julien. Because nothing screams romance like a protest being raided by police and people getting tear gassed, but Julien had dibs first though, so it doesn’t count as cheating, right?
Aki’s mom approaches him to try to talk about how she’s learned about his sexuality, but he doesn’t seem to be interested. It would’ve been good though for him to have her support, because his dad handles it by publicly announcing his sexuality on the news to save his business and get rid of a lawsuit. Aki had also gone to the protest, and when a news anchor approached his father about the lawsuit allegations, his father claimed he couldn’t be homophobic if his son is gay. All I can say is, that’s certainly one way to come out.
Max decides he’s had enough of playing defense with Rafa, and switches to the offense. He DMs a sex tape of him and Rafa to the GG account. Unfortunately, since Rafa now has access to the account, he deletes the video before it could be shared. But since Kate and her team saw it before it disappeared, who knows what they’ll do with that information.
On a happy note, Kiki (Audrey’s mom, in case you forgot) is doing better in the hospital. Audrey and Kiki share a sweet moment, after all the fighting that’s gone between them. Once Audrey can see her mom is doing better, she hosts a dinner for Max and Aki as a way of thank you. When the dinner ends, Max is ready to head out to give the two some alone time, but Audrey and Aki have a different idea in mind. You guessed it, our favorite throuple are now in bed together.
To end it all, Aki’s dad gives Aki a call to apologize for the way he exposed him. Near the end of his voicemail, he gives Aki a heads up to stay away from Julien. What could it be that Aki’s dad knows about Julien that we don’t?
This episode was certainly a gamechanger, and for once, everything wasn’t solved by the end of the episode. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll get a fabulous Thanksgiving episode next time, just as the OG gave us.
But until then,
Xoxo.
