Bottega Green Is Here To Stay
Eat your greens and wear them too.
Named the shade of SS21 by HypeBeast, Bottega Veneta’s crisp apple green has become a signature for the brand and continues to dominate social media’s street style scene by editors, celebrities, and influencers alike. From Hailey Bieber to Leonie Hanne, the inspiration on how to style the industry's newest color obsession is endless.
Despite having no official Instagram presence, the brand’s influence over the fashion industry remains prominent. Since his appointment as Creative Director of Bottega Veneta in 2018, Daniel Lee has modernized the brand’s image in a way that is fresh, relevant, and truly ready to wear. Similar to Jacquemus, the Italian brand has a cult-like following amongst Instagram’s influencers and fashion lovers. So much so, female rapper BIA couldn’t help but tell the world that she doesn’t go to the bodega without her Bottega. It’s a brand that was revived by Lee’s keen sense of innovation and artistry.
In his past collections, it’s clear that the overall minimal aesthetic is strengthened by structural play in the clothes’ silhouettes and the accessories’ shapes. Additionally, the use of bold color to offset a buttery neutral color palette is why it’s no surprise that this saturated shade of green has taken over. It’s an easy way to add a pop of color to an outfit without fully committing to it.
First featured as a repeat shade in his SS21 or Salon 01 runway show, it was given its name because of the “bold emerald hue found inside the brand’s shoeboxes.” Lee hosted the show in an intimate theater where it was entirely lit green. The opening look, which was a structured skirt suit paired with matching mules, featured this signature ‘BV Green.’ Throughout the show, the shade reigned supreme for the accessories and shoes, including a green leather belted pouch bag and rubber-soled green slip-on. The beauty element didn’t disappoint either. Models wore slicks of green eyeshadow on their lids.
The unofficial Instagram soon became flooded with green-inspired images as well as the Salon 01 campaign and show images. This envious green is now considered a staple in Lee’s collections, and it can be found beyond Salon 02 and Wardrobe 02 (Bottega Veneta Pre-Fall 2021).
Bottega Veneta debuted its SS22 Collection on October 21st in Detroit, Michigan instead of London or Berlin. Not following the Fashion Calendar, fans and celebrities anticipated to see whether or not this color would make another appearance on the runway, and once again, Daniel Lee did not disappoint.
For the brand’s third installment, Salon 03, functionality and sustainability were a common thread throughout the collection, highlighting Lee’s treatment of fabrics and technical skills, and his ability to manipulate and exaggerate silhouettes for high-performance daywear. The collection included voluminous jackets and matching trousers, ruched sleeve details, and of course, splashes of that beloved acid green. The muted gray looks were complimented by green accessories before introducing a range of looks that included variations of the Bottega green color. Lee managed to reimagine and reinvent brand loyalists’ favorites and keep spectators intrigued with this salon-style show.
While high street brands such as Zara and H&M have yet to fully embrace this new color trend, other luxury and contemporary brands like Balenciaga, Jacquemus, and J.W. Anderson have all tried their hand at creating a similar shade. Though they come close, none can compare to the crispness of Bottega Veneta.
