Romance Films: The Love Stories We've All Forgotten

We cry, gasp, and fall in love empathizing with characters in romance movies. Many of us wish to cherish a similar love story like the ones in films. However, that’s not always attainable. So, we stick to movies instead—it’s just better that way. Without further ado, let’s reminisce some of the best romance films we’ve all forgotten.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Silver Linings Playbook was directed in 2012 by David Russell. Silver Linings contains a witty and romantic twist to a great love story—one that comes with its challenges. Russel ties in mental illness, trauma, and a star-stricken cast. The remedy for a great love story.

Pat, who is played by Bradley Cooper, suffers from bipolar disorder. He is now on a mission to get his wife back, with his new life motto “excelsior.” While on his mission, he comes across Tiffany who is played by Jennifer Lawrence. Pat was surprised when Tiffany revealed that she suffers from a borderline personality disorder. Both Pat and Tiffany had no idea they would fall in love again after losing their spouses. However, the element of dance taught them communication, teamwork, dedication, and boundaries.

Watching the film will have you rooting for their love while hoping they mend that silver lining. This film is not your average love story, which is exactly why it should be in your top five for romantic films.

Endless Love (2014)

Endless Love was first filmed in back 1981. However, the film made an epic comeback in 2014, leaving the audience mesmerized by the love story. Unlike Silver Linings, this love story is a bit predictable. This film is about a teenage girl, Jade, who is played by Gabriella Wilde that falls in love with David (Alex Pettyfer). David is a mischievous boy with a troubled past, who is not accepted by Jades’ father, Hugh, played by Bruce Greenwood. Jade made the decision to follow in her father’s footsteps and pursue a medical career while David is unsure of his future. They both take the summer to enjoy life and fall in love amidst all the turbulence. But, her father’s disapproval only makes the love-struck teens more determined to pursue the intense affair.

Expect to be crying and wishing you can heal all of the world’s broken hearts while watching this. But, don’t worry a love that is endless won't end.

Remember Me (2010)

Remember Me is a love story wrapped around a ton of real-life problems. However, the love to is endless. But in this film, we empathize more with the characters' traumas and grow a connection with them.

While other iconic romances were filmed in 2010 such as The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, we can’t forget about Remember Me. Director Allen Coulter snatched up Robert Pattison, who played the famous Edward Cullen and made him Tyler Hawkins. Tyler is the main character in the film. He is just as smart and soulful as Edward, but a bit more bitter and troubled. Each character in the film is overwhelmed with personal problems, such as Tyler’s partner Ally who is played by Emilie de Ravin. People in the town have it out for Tyler, including Ally’s father, the chief of police. Their determination to make the relationship work only mended their real-life problems. The overwhelming amount of drama that occurs can overlook the romance. However, the plot twist and the ending of the film leave the audience with a gut-punch of originality.

The Town (2010)

Who would have thought robbing a bank can lead you to find your true love? Well, Ben Affleck did. The Town is not based on a true story, however, it is based on the novel Prince of Thieves by Chuck Hogan. Robbing a bank-led Doug (Ben Affleck) to find the love of his life, Claire (Rebecca Hall), who was the bank manager where Doug stole from. The love definitely did not spark instantly. Once the robbery was committed, Claire was kidnapped by Doug and friends and dropped off in the middle of nowhere. Doug started to follow Claire around to make sure she wouldn’t tell the FBI about the robbery. Meanwhile following Claire around, a love sparked between the two by simply running into each other at the laundromat. While on spy duty, he was approached by Claire unexpectedly. But, did she know he was the thief from the bank? What can I say, it was a crime of passion.
