Back to Bold: Celebrities Taking a Risk on the Graphic Makeup Trend

With bleached and shaved eyebrows trending, it seems that the “clean girl” and “model off duty” aesthetics are making their way out. Currently, we are seeing bolder and more colorful makeup looks than ever before. Vogue notes that metallic accents, face embellishments, and of course, bleached brows, are all the rage in beauty for 2022. It’s safe to say makeup is going back to bold with all of these graphic looks.

Makeup influencers have always done daring looks in Youtube videos and newly on TikTok, but it's very rare that you see those looks on the street. Recently, celebrities like Rico Nasty and Doja Cat have been publicizing extravagant makeup looks. Doja was seen all around Paris Fashion Week sporting graphic looks, but critics had mixed emotions about it. As we know she made her name in the music industry by putting out a song called “MOOO!,” so not many too many people were surprised to see her changing up her style (especially at fashion week).

Doja Cat stepped out to the Awake Mode show in Paris with her body covered in a sickening gold metallic paint. It was safe to say that she stole the show. Doja attended many other shows, such as Balenciaga, where she had minimal makeup on, but a smudged red lip and dark eyes—which is very on-brand for the fashion house.

These looks that we are seeing are considered art, as makeup is. This trend might not be for everyone as it is quite a drastic change from your everyday concealer, blush, and bronzer. But if we look back at Lady Gaga’s 2010 MTV Awards meat dress, nobody understood it then. Now, it's considered an iconic moment in fashion history. 

Taking a risk on graphic makeup could bring your entire look together! Even if you just use a colorful eyeliner and draw it out more than you usually do or doodle on some pink hearts over your blush, you are taking the risk. There are no rules or boundaries to this trend, so you can do anything that feels authentic to you! 

Remember to always try things that are going to make YOU feel comfortable and that will make YOU happy! As the wise Doja Cat says, “I’m like Darth Vadar cause I got all of my haters jumping.”
