5 Scariest Fashion Moments of 2022
With Halloween just around the corner, what better way to celebrate then to reflect on the horrifying fashion of 2022. Whether it’s a fashion don’t from a celebrity, controversially trashy products from designers, or a trend that deserves to be thrown away, it’s truly been a scary 2022. In no way are these moments limited to the five I’ve listed below, this year has definitely had its fill of interesting fashion moments to say the least. But these five keep me up at night, as I expect them to scare every fashion fanatic this Halloween season.
Julia Fox and Kanye West PFW Nightmare
With all the drama around Kanye lately, it’s hard to forget this terrifying moment at the beginning of this year while attending the A/W 2022 Paris Fashion Week. It was the first introduction to Julia Fox, and one hard to miss with the gold accessories and Black Swan esque makeup. But let’s not skip over Fox having lots of fashion don’ts this year — with her Canadian tuxedo, grocery shopping in matching underwear and a blazer, and many more daring looks. Yet it’s Kanye’s full face mask paired with Julia Fox’s middle school level eyeliner is truly something that haunts my dreams.

Kodi-Smit McPhee is the man in the doorway

Kodi-Smit McPhee’s appearance at the 2022 Met Gala was something… unforgettable. While this gala had many looks that surpassed any expectation of Gilded Glamour (cough cough, x Blake Lively, cough cough) there were others who didn’t quite make their mark, McPee being one of them. His look, wearing all leather Bottega Veneta, was a nod to classic Americana casual Fridays. Unfortunately the red gloves took the spotlight, and not in a good way. It’s truly the man in the doorway from any horror film I’ve seen.
Y2K Moon Boots Were a Blimp of a Trend

Y2k fashion has been hit or miss this past year. And for a short time this past winter, Moon Boots were all the rage. They’re not for everyone, but to me they’re scarier than wearing socks with open-toed heels. What’s even worse, somehow celebrities can pull them off in nothing but bikinis. Yet when others do it, we turn into a real life astronaut lost in space like any psychological Sci-fi movie you can think of.
Kim Kardashian Trashing Marilyn Monroe’s Dress

Another 2022 Met Gala look is on this list, and while Kim Kardashian looks stunning like most things she wears, what horrifies me about this look is the repercussions of wearing this historic dress. We all heard about the after math, but if you haven’t, she lost 26 lbs to fit into it and nearly ripped the vintage dress by the seams. With it being the dress that Marilyn Monroe sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” in, it had more than just the fashion industry in an up-roar. Let alone the backlash Kim K received for “promoting” the idea of weight loss in such a short period of time before the gala took place.

To wrap this list up, we can literally throw everything away in Balenciaga’s $1,790 trash bag pouch made out of 100% leather. This year in their S/S ‘22 and A/W ‘22 collections, they debuted other unique pieces, but this one wins first place as the scariest. The price tag is most definitely the scariest part of it!
