A – Company

Established in 2018, designer Sara Lopez brings a new level of deconstruction and gender fluidity in her collections. A–Company made their debut in the fashion week world with their Spring/Summer 2022 collection. Her unique method of design is taking a single garment and breaking it down into varying forms. A–Company products from an analytical viewpoint focuses on how clothes play a role in our society. In this era of sustainable and responsible design, Lopez strives in eliminating over-consumption and producing limited quantities which are made right in New York. For the conscious shopper and out-of-box thinker, this is the show to watch.

Ashlyn

We saw Ashlyn for their Spring/Summer 2022 collection titled “Capturing the Now,” which portrayed the brand’s focus on powerful silhouettes and architectural design. Designer Ashlynn Park was a pattern maker for Yohji Yamamoto and Calvin Klein, and Japan and New York influences are captured in her designs. She is committed to producing zero-waste luxury garments and this only adds to the value and craftsmanship of her work. Her pieces are truly visual experiences with flawless tailoring and amazing proportions.

Puppet and Puppets

Contemporary artists Carly Mark and Ayla Argentina first came into the fashion week scene in 2020. They have since had four successful collections showcased in NY, combining elements of classic storytelling with non-traditional styling. In their Spring/Summer 2022 show, we witnessed Puppets and Puppets unique portrayal of our present-day and the roaring 20s. Each look on the runway has its own individuality and is orchestrated in a costume-like manner. The bold use of color, layering, and accessories really sells the story and connects to a theme/time. Mark and Argentina approach design in an artistic way and this upcoming show is sure to bring another line of intricate looks.

House of Aama

House of Aama was launched in 2015 by mother and daughter designers Rebecca Henry and Akua Shabuka. This duo develops their designs in an expression of the Black experience, implementing nostalgic and historical aspects in their garments. For their Spring/Summer 2022 collection, titled “Salt Water,” they created Camp Aama—a fictional community in celebration of Black heritage. The show showcased the theme with models styled in bikinis and walking to a soundtrack of crashing waves. This NYFW the bar is set high for the visual and cultural experience House of Aama produces with their designs.

Saint Sintra

Saint Sintra had its debut at NYFW with their Spring/Summer 2022 collection, showcasing designer Sintra Martins women's wear brand that specializes in romantic design and recapturing classic looks. With her use of corsetry and unique tailoring, Martins evolves the schoolgirl uniform into a high fashion statement. Saint Sierra’s spring collection has been seen sported by fan-favorite Olivia Rodrigo and singer Kali Uchis. Sintra Martins pulls inspiration from fantasy, in her last show there were various props such as a doll house that reached the ceiling and an automated elephant.
