Drunk Elephant: Is This Trending Skincare Brand Worth the Hype?
Drunk Elephant? No, we’re not at a tipsy circus. Rather, this is the newest skincare brand that has been all the rage on social media. But is it worth your money? While their packaging may be eye-catching, there is more to this brand than just what's on the outside. Whether you need a moisturizer, mask, or serum, Drunk Elephant has a wide variety of items that can potentially fit into your daily routine.
The Philosophy
It is no secret that Drunk Elephant puts effort into its philosophy. In fact, their website includes an entire page for it. Along with opting for biocompatible ingredients, this brand steers clear of what they call the “Suspicious 6.”
And what are the “Suspicious 6” exactly? They consist of essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrances/dyes, and SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate). These ingredients can be very harmful, and by nixing them from their formulas, Drunk Elephant says that skin will “return to a healthy, balanced state.”
You’ve probably heard the saying, “listen to your skin”. At Drunk Elephant, they believe that wholeheartedly. They understand that skin has a tenancy to be volatile and might need something different based on the day. Creating the perfect balance of products that your skin requires for nourishment is what they call, a “smoothie.”
pH is of utmost importance when it comes to skincare. The proper pH ensures your skin will remain in its happiest, healthiest state. All of Drunk Elephant’s products are in the range of 2.5 to 6.8. If you remember anything from chemistry in high school, you’ll recognize that these levels are most acidic- which is intentional. Our skin has a natural pH of around 5.5, meaning this compliments it tremendously and reduces the chances of irritation.
The Products
Of course, it would be impossible to cover each and every one of this brand's products in one go, but here are some that are crowd favorites—and even a few that I have tried.
Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser
This product is a must-have in my daily routine. This jelly cleanser perfectly washes the face without stripping it of its natural oils. It’s gentle, soothing, and cleansing—combining a winning lineup of ingredients to create a balanced formula for all skin types. Plus, it lathers like a dream, dissolving makeup like no other. You can find this product and all the others at places like Sephora, Ulta, and on the Drunk Elephant website.
Protini Polypeptide Cream
This moisturizer is another crowd favorite. It improves skin by refining its tone, texture, and firmness. It aids in creating a more youthful appearance, lessening wrinkles and damage. Peptides, amino acids, and extracts combine to help protect and nourish the skin. Dermatologist Dr. Marisa Garshick verified its effectiveness telling Bustle it, “improve[s] the overall appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.” Though I haven’t yet tried this product myself, I’m dying to give it a go.
T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum
Last but certainly not least is the T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, yet another item that boasts all 5-star reviews. Don’t let the $90 price tag deter you, this product is worth every penny. Their unique blend of acids helps to exfoliate, brighten and clarify the skin. It unclogs pores and evens the skin tone, creating a beautiful complexion. This serum is the whole package, as it also works to soothe and hydrate.
Final verdict? This brand is a yes from me. Their philosophy combined with spectacular products and, of course, cute packaging, is a recipe for success. I’m no skincare expert, but as a lover and consumer of all things beauty, Drunk Elephant is a win in my book.
If you don’t need any new skincare, don’t fear—Drunk Elephant also carries hair and body products that you’ll love. Try out some of their items for yourself and who knows, you might find a new favorite!
