Drop Dead Red: The Unofficial Color for This Autumn/Winter

Whether it is present in clothing, accessories, home decor, nails, or makeup, there is always one color every season that we cannot shake from our Pinterest boards. For this Fall and Winter, red has decided to drop its way into the title of the season's “It” color. “Lava Falls” is a classic yet bold orange-red shade that’s listed as one of Pantone’s colors from the “Autumn/Winter 2022/2023 New York Fashion Week Color Palette”.

Red is usually associated with love, passion, and health, while also being tied to anger and aggression. But red can be seen during the fall in its natural environment. According to Nature, the leaves turn bright red in order to create as much longevity and soil possible before a tree settles down for the incoming winter season. Color, believe it or not, heavily influences how we dress— even if we don’t realize it.

When you wear all black or all white for example, it is most likely because you want to keep it minimal, monochromatic, and simple. If you go for a super colorful look, like swapping out a pair of denim pants for purple trousers and pairing it with an orange sweater, you might be in a more confident and risk-taking mindset.

The Good Trade refers to red as a color to wear when you want to feel bold. “It can help you stand out in a crowd (or on a Zoom call!), and it makes a powerful impression on a first date. Because it’s a fiery hue, red can also be a great uniform when you’re hoping to fight for a cause you’re passionate about,” says the author, Audrey Stanton.
