Swift explores her 10 studio albums throughout the three-hour-long film. She kickstarts with her Lover album, the seventh studio album and her first to be released following her infamous split with Big Machine Records. The concert is finalized with the 2022 album Midnights, closing with her song “Karma,” a perfect nod to everyone who said she would not do well.

The movie was filmed amidst the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes due to the fact that Swift did what the studios would not: pay workers a fair wage. The film was not distributed by any major film studios but rather released by AMC themselves.

Christopher Nolan said at a City University of New York event that “Taylor Swift is about to show the studios, because her concert film is not being distributed by the studios, it’s being distributed by a theater owner, AMC, and it’s going to make an enormous amount of money.” Nolan continued, “this is the thing, this is a format, this is a way of seeing things and sharing stories, or sharing experiences, that’s incredibly valuable. And if they don’t want it, somebody else will. So that’s just the truth of it.”

Swifties everywhere are entering the theaters in their eras-themed outfits. There is a tradition among fans to make and trade friendship bracelets with other concertgoers. This is attributed to her song “You’re On Your Own, Kid” in which Swift sings “Make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it/ You’ve got no reason to be afraid.” All of the infectious energy brought by fans everywhere makes this theater experience unlike anything before.

Swift is not stopping there though. The re-recording of her fifth studio album, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), is set to release on October 27th. However, the celebration is short-lived as Swift heads off to her international leg of The Eras Tour on November 9.

Stay tuned because this pop diva is not going anywhere. And as she says in her closing tour song “Karma,” “Ask me why so many fade, but/ I’m still here”.
