What Fashion Era You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign

Looking to change up your style but don’t know where to start? Are you interested in astrology? Or are you simply just bored and don’t know what to do with your time? Whatever the case may be, keep reading to find out which fashion era best fits your zodiac sign!

Before we begin, there are just a few ground rules, justifications, and warnings. First, this style analysis operates on the characteristics of the classic 12 Greco-Roman tropical zodiac signs, therefore you will not find Ophiuchus anywhere in this article. Second, these era assignments are based on sun signs, but be sure to check your other chart placements as well! Third, this list focuses on women’s fashion, as it would require a lengthier article to include all fashions. Lastly, this list will not include any information on zodiac jewelry.

With all of our little disclaimers out of the way, let's get into this zodiac runway—starting with the fire signs.

fire signs

Aries (March 21-April 20)

Victorian Era

Aries is the cardinal fire sign, and the first in the zodiacal cycle. Aries are outspoken and not afraid to take up the space that they need, much like large pleated skirts and bustles that were popular among Victorian women. These large skirts were often accompanied with corset-snatched waists, large bonnets, and light colors to soften out the dramatic silhouettes.

Leo (July 23-August 21)

1960s

This fixed fire sign is homey and warm. Often very generous to their community, a Leo loves to spread joy and happiness, but is always ready to stand up for what they believe. Leo is perfectly characterized by the American anti-war movement of the 1960s. Popular fashions of this movement included miniskirts, bell bottoms, and long hairstyles. These fashions encouraged rejecting the mainstream, like a typical trailblazing Leo.

Sagittarius (November 23-December 22)

1970s

Sagittarius is the last of our fire signs and is classified as mutable. People born under this sign are considered to be enthusiastic and often thrive in spontaneity. The 1970s embodies this spontaneous and explorative personality with its wealth of different styles. From the birth of the punk movement to the glamorous disco scene, the 70s has many trends to satisfy the curiosity of a Sagittarius.

Earth signs

Taurus (April 21-May 21)

1920s

1920s style is about both simplicity and opulence, and so is the first of our earth signs: Taurus. As a fixed earth sign, Taurus is concerned with the physical world and often lives for the present. While 1920s party fashion reflects Taurus’ lust for life, the simplicity and modernity seen in everyday clothing articulates the physically grounded nature of this sign.

Virgo (August 22-September 23)

1930s

Virgo, represented by the Maiden, is feminine and practical. While they tend to be very detail-oriented and pragmatic, Virgos are classified as mutable, thus having an inherently flexible nature. Virgo fits perfectly with the romantic bias cut silhouettes popularized by 1930s movie stars.

Capricorn (December 23-January 20)

1940s

As the cardinal earth sign, Capricorn is resilient and dependable. Capricorn characteristics are represented well by the highly structured, utilitarian fashions of the 1940s. The popularity of utility dresses and rationing in the 1940s reflects Capricorn’s steady discipline and practicality.

air signs

Gemini (May 22-June 21)

Renaissance

Geminis are often considered ‘two-faced’ because of their incredible adaptability. However, they are just sociable, easy to get along with, and easily influenced. During the Italian Renaissance, it was a very common practice to recycle old fabrics into beautiful clothing pieces. This best represents Gemini’s flexible and impressionable characteristics.

Libra (September 24-October 23)

1990s

Libra is the cardinal air sign. This sign is characterized by being in tune with their emotions. Libra’s imaginative and idealistic nature is akin to the 1990s movement towards more youthful, casual styles. The 90s are perfect for Libras, as fashion became less about status and more about community.

Aquarius (January 21-February 19)

1980s

The fixed air sign, Aquarius, is bold and innovative. ‘Power dressing’, bright colors, and big hair during the 1980s represents this sign’s unique and personality-driven demeanor. Mixes of tight-fitted and baggy silhouettes, as well as clearly defined subcultures, make the 1980s perfect for the individualist Aquarius.

Water Signs

Cancer (June 22-July 22)

1950s

Cancer is a comfortable and routine-oriented sign. Those born under Cancer have a warm disposition and are familial and loving towards others. Cancer is well-suited to Christian Dior’s classic ‘New Look’ that dominated the traditional 1950s style. As a post-war era, the 50s were to seem idyllic and warm to encourage a return to traditional values. This nurturing and rebuilding period is perfect for the caring and supportive Cancer.

Scorpio (October 24-November 22)

1910s

Scorpio is a very mysterious and secretive sign. Because of this, they are keen observers with impeccable intuition. Scorpio is represented well by the S-curve silhouette and hobble skirts that were popular in the 1910s. The shape of these skirts forced women to walk with very short strides, reflecting the careful nature of a Scorpio. Scorpios are also known to be constantly evolving which is represented by the mid decade shift in fashions at the start of World War I.

Pisces (February 20-March 20)

2000s

Rounding out our zodiac list is the mutable water sign, Pisces. Pisces is characterized as generous and empathetic, but also an escapist. It is this escapist, daydreaming nature that classifies Pisces in the 2000s style era. Fashion in the 2000s became futuristic and heavily influenced by technology—think ‘The Matrix.’ However, the 2000s was not a stranger to playing with brighter colors and bolder prints either. This neatly encapsulates Pisces’ tendency to absorb the energy of those around them.
