Met Gala 2023 Beauty Round Up
This year’s Met Gala paid homage to the talented visionary Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld though controversial, was an absolute powerhouse in the fashion industry being the creative director of various fashion houses—including Fendi, Chloe, and most famously Chanel. Known for his revitalization of Chanel back in the 1980s where he remained Creative Director until his passing.
Although the Met Gala is most known for showcasing the work of renowned designers and stylists, let’s not forget that no look is complete without proper hair and makeup. Diving right in, here’s a look at some of our favorite beauty looks from the event!
The first look that seemed to capture everyone’s attention was on none other than Doja Cat. Doja Cat continuously surprises us with her outlandish looks and this year was no different. Monday night she wore a prosthetic to mimic a feline facial structure, created by LA-based special effects makeup artist, Malina Stearns. This look was to honor Lagerfeld’s beloved cat Choppette. Another major part of Doja Cat’s look was her cat claw-inspired nails, created by famous nail tech Saccia, that completed the look.
Sydney Sweeney with her doll-like features is the face of Armani Beauty. Her soft, rosey glam was created by makeup artist Melissa Hernandez. The pink tones in her look complimented her dress perfectly. Her hair was done by stylist Glen Oropeza with voluminous waves and an oversized black bow to truly give her that innocent baby doll appearance.
Naomi Campbell served her breathtaking beauty and her glowy, glam makeup on a silver platter—created by world-renowned makeup artist Pat McGrath. McGrath decided to keep her look within the same color family as Campbell’s dress so for her eyes she used Pat McGrath Labs Divine Rose Luxe Quad: Eternal Eden.
Rihanna never fails to leave us gasping with her glam looks. Makeup artist Priscilla Ono is the mastermind behind Riri’s ethereal glow created with none other than Rihanna’s iconic makeup line, Fenty. For her look, Rihanna is wearing the Pro Filter Foundation for that flawless complexion and the Killawatt highlighter in the shade Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal. To finish the look, Ono added Fenty’s beloved red Lip Paint in the shade “Uncensored”.
Emma Chamberlain has become the face of luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Lancôme. Her look was giving regal off-duty with her sleek straight hair and periwinkle headband done by hairstylist Sami Knight. Her makeup was matching monochromatic with her outfit and hair accessories. Done by makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan, she used navy blue and periwinkle tones to create Chamberlains’ stunning smokey eye. She kept the rest of the look sweet and simple with silky matte skin and a nude lip.
Lil Nas X used his whole body as a canvas to showcase the work of none other than Dame Pat McGrath. His entire body, embellished in crystals and pearls really captured the essence of glamour. His silhouette glistened in showstopping holographic silver paint. From head to toe, Lil Nas X was completely bedazzled.
