Autumn/Winter 2023 Accessory Trend Report

It might still be August but the Fall/Winter season is right around the corner. Now that I have already indulged in my first couple of pumpkin-spiced lattes (courtesy of Dunkin Donuts), it is safe to say that Fall/Winter 2023 accessory trends are heavy on my mind. With a range of styles coming from the most fashionable decades such as the daring 80s and traumatic yet chic trends of the 2010s, this Fall/Winter season is chock-full of trends to try.

From chunky jewelry to pointed-toe heels and all things red, here are the accessory trends you’ll need to know this Autumn/Winter season.

Comin’ in clutch

There is nothing more 2010s’ than a clutch to get you through the day. Whether you are styling this bag for a cozy autumn workday or a crisp night out with the girls, there are endless variations of the clutch to fit every aesthetic. Envelope clutches, pillow-style clutches, and evening clutches obnoxiously decorated with diamonds or pearls should definitely be on your wishlist this season.

Heels with the fur

No surprise herefur is on everyone’s checklist each fall and winter. This season, prepare to take your heel game to the next level by upping the cozy factor with some fur. Try implementing some colorful tights or socks to wear as styled in Burberry’s F/W ’23 collection.

CHUNK it up

We always preachsay it with a statementand chunky jewelry does just that. A thick gold cuff, a string of red-cherry pearls, or even a pair of gold clip-on earrings circa 1982 will certainly do the trick when trying this F/W trend. Don’t forget your gaudy cross necklaces and heart chokers.

A LUDICROUSLY CAPACIOUS BAG

Contrary to Tom’s belief in Succession, a ludicrously capacious bag is absolutely essential to have in your wardrobe. It can be used as a work bag, airport bag, or to hold school necessities like a laptop and a magazine (or two). Additionally, you do not have to pay for a carry-on since these oversized bags can hold at least a week of clothes!

I SEE RED

Last year, red had a big moment on the F/W runway, and it seems to have stuck around for this season as well. However, this time we’re seeing many more shade variations. Bright cherry red is taking over as the main hue for the upcoming season. So, if you were thinking of donating any of your red items from last season, you may want to reconsider.

UNDERneath it all

Undoubtedly, the most controversial trend from the F/W ’23 runway was the “underwear as outerwear” trend that sparked up plenty of good, bad, and ugly conversations. If executed correctly, wearing your undergarments over your outer garments can be done in a very simplistic manner, as proven in Miu Miu, Jacquemus, and Ferragamo collections for the season.

PEARlS on PEARLS

If you paid any attention to the collections for the season, you may have noticed a slight nod to royalty with designers like Jacquemus pulling together Princess Diana-inspired looks. Another trend from the book of royalty-inspired styles are the pearls worn by many women in power. Whether you opt for a simple strand or a pearl-embellished beret, the beads are a chic way to pay homage to the royals this F/W season.

THE BIGGER THE BELT

Belts are both functional, and fashionable, so there is no question as to why we are seeing them in a big way this F/W season. Think back to 2010 when you were rocking that huge buckled belt overtop your Abercrombie long-sleeve, or over your Blair Waldorf-inspired circle skirt. While it might be traumatic for some, others will find this trend useful, and fun!

FOUR EYES FOR YOU

This is not your average glasses trend. Eyeglasses (yes, the prescription kind) were everywhere on the F/W ’23 runways. Many of us may need these out of necessity, which makes it easier to funk up! Switch out your black glasses for some cool red ones (maybe take inspiration from Betty Suarez in Ugly Betty), or go the Balenciaga route and wear some completely clear frames.

POINT it out

Pointed-toe heels were seriously everywhere during F/W ’23 fashion weekfrom the runway to the street. This heel silhouette is a classic, so it doesn't necessarily fall under the category of a trend, as it makes its way back to our closets every now and then. This season, we saw pointed-toe heels with knee-high socks, adorned with floral and bow detailing, and packed with stylish straps.

SHADE IT OFF

The sunglasses this season took inspiration from almost every decade, with the ‘60s mod-esque style frames, ‘90s colorful tints, and the oversized cyber-punk frames of today making a splash on the runway. If you needed any more convincing to buy yourself a cool pair of sunglasses, the frames from this F/W season are a great place to start.

September is rapidly approaching, so we hope you will use this trend report as the ultimate guide for all your shopping must-haves that you will need to dominate the Fall/Winter ’23 season.
