From Stage to Screen: GUTS World Tour Film Officially Released

The GUTS World Tour has officially come to an end, but the fun isn’t over. Olivia Rodrigo released a film on October 29 through Netflix detailing her iconic eight-month tour comprised of 95 shows across four continents.

Rodrigo was named Billboard’s 2024 Touring Artist of the Year and raked in a total of $186.6 million with a total attendance of 1.4 million. This tour will go down in history with Rodrigo’s career, as it marked her first arena tour.

The tour film kicks off with the introduction of her concert and goes directly into her hit single “bad idea right?” Rodrigo’s energy is infectious as she jumps around the stage with her all-female band. She dons a silver sparkly two-piece top and skirt with her signature Doc Martens.

She slows it down for piano renditions of her hit “driver’s license” before transitioning into her ballad “teenage dream,” which features home video footage of Rodrigo as a child as she sings about her fears of growing up as a woman in the music industry.

With the conclusion of this slowed-down section of the show, we reach the first outfit change of the night, with Rodrigo switching into a sparkly black two-piece set before transitioning into her song “pretty isn’t pretty.”

Next up is her song “love is embarrassing” which features fun, awkward choreography from her backup dancers to accompany the themes of the song.

The stage itself is comprised of a main stage that houses her band and is where the bulk of the performance is, but two diagonal catwalks extend from each side of the stage, allowing for more personal fan access.

For her song “making the bed,” Rodrigo lays on a rising platform before transitioning into her song “logical,” which features her sitting on a giant floating crescent moon structure over the audience.

Later on in the show, Rodrigo brings out Chappell Roan, who opened up for her on part of the American leg of the tour. They sing an upbeat rendition of Roan’s hit “HOT TO GO!” The performance is dynamic, with both singers doing the dance that goes with the track.

Rodrigo eventually does a short acoustic set with her guitarist as they sit and play stripped-back versions of her songs “happier” and “favorite crime,” both from her first album, SOUR, released in 2021.

One of the most notable performances of the concert is Rodrigo’s song “obsessed” which was released on the GUTS (spilled) deluxe album. She pops out in a red sparkly bodysuit as she performs over a camera built into the stage floor. Rodrigo performs the song for the camera below her as the video footage is displayed behind her for fans to watch.

As Rodrigo rounds out the concert, she reappears in a new outfit for her encore, featuring bedazzled shorts and a white tank top with various sayings printed on it, such as “Liv, Laugh, Love,” “I’m Just A Girl,” or location specific sayings like “Kiss My Aussie.”

She finishes the concert with her song “get him back” which she performs with a giant red megaphone.

Rodrigo brings the star power to this tour with strong vocals and a dynamic setlist. She allows her slower ballads to take their time and soak up the moment before bringing the audience’s energy right back up with all of her pop-punk style hits.
