NEW VS OLD SHAMPOO BRANDS

Using only vegan hair products has been one of my goals recently. It’s no secret that my hair has seen better days. What was once strong, healthy, and thick is now dull, thin, and frizzy. The process of restoring my hair to the strength and thickness I once had and loved took some digging. I went through many trials with Shampoo and asked for a lot of help from the people at Sephora, Ulta, and even professional hairdressers. The people at Sephora, Ulta, and even professional hairdressers helped me a lot as I went through many trials with shampoo. Despite my best efforts, nothing worked, so I took matters into my own hands. During my research, I found an old brand of shampoo called “Sexy Hair” and learned about the newly popular brand “BondiBoost”. Through my process, I will determine which is the better choice and why. I would also like to know if both shampoos live up to their advertising claims.

Bondi Boost Hair Thickening Therapy Shampoo offers a clean vegan recipe that is free of phthalates, formaldehyde releasers, oxybenzone, octinoxate, etc. Additionally, this product is color safe, so my dyed brunette hair won't fade as quickly as with other shampoos due to its low toxicity. In addition, it has been proven to strengthen and thicken fine hair, which was a major plus for me.

The packaging of the shampoo bottle did not impress me when I received it in the mail. This bottle has very minimal details, including purple straps along the sides and the product name in the middle. I really appreciate the pump feature instead of the squeeze bottles. I usually pour too much from the squeeze bottles, so it's nice to know that with one pump, I'm good to go.

Apart from the packaging, it was time to see if this Shampoo lived up to the good reviews on TikTok and Sephora. With all the clean ingredients, I knew it wouldn't smell like perfume, but I was hoping for something pleasant. The shampoo smelled very strong, almost like a toner used in salons. For me, this was a miss. There was a fear that my hair would always smell like that, making being near me unbearable, and who wants that? Not me. Despite the smell, I decided to put the shampoo in my hair, and I was amazed at how well it lathered. There was more to be gained with less in this case, and I loved the idea of only needing a small amount. The length of my hair (to the middle of my ribs) usually led to a fast turnover of shampoo because it wouldn't lather well. I usually felt that I needed more shampoo to remove all residue, but in this case, I was pleasantly surprised.

When I was done showering, I liked how my hair did not feel waxy. My hair felt and looked greasy after using a few shampoos that caused it to feel that way. I felt my hair was clean, healthy, and felt great after one wash with Bondi Boost. Instead of taking over my hair, the smell that I was worried about was simply clean and normal. The moment I blew out my hair and looked at it closely, I noticed it had a shine and looked just like my old hair that I missed. Bondi Boost fully impressed me and I will be buying again.

Hair that can use an extra boost of strength and flexibility can benefit from Sexy Hair Strengthening Shampoo. With the shampoo and conditioner combined, hair breakage can be reduced by 80%. In addition, Sexy Hair Strengthening Shampoo works well with any kind of hair, regardless of whether it is curly, straight, colored, or wavy.  However, not all of its ingredients are suitable for all types of hair, despite the fact that it advertises all excellent ideas for healthy hair. A chemical that caught my attention was Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, which is a cleaning agent. A disadvantage of this chemical is that it can cause severe skin irritation, which is not suitable for people with sensitive scalps. Even though this was a big turndown for me, I was still willing to give it a try.

In the beginning, I was a bit apprehensive about using this product. An employee of one of those hairdressers-only stores recommended Sexy Hair to me. Although I knew Sexy Hair had been around for a long time, I had no idea what it was about. But I was persuaded to give it a try by the woman, so I was willing to give it a try. Considering the size of the bottle, I knew I would get what I paid for. The packaging of the product didn't appeal to me at all. It's a huge blue bottle with a black squeeze cap. In the middle of the bottle, the label is written in an unusual font. By simply looking at this bottle, I would never have given it a chance.

My curiosity was immediately piqued to know if this shampoo lived up to what the saleswoman told me it was. It was the scent of the Shampoo that first caught my attention, and I really liked how it smelled. The smell was fresh and floral like and was not overpowering at all. It was just the scent I would ask for it I had to make my perfect shampoo scent. As much as I liked the smell, I was already sold, but I carried on. My own problems with a squeeze cap resulted in me pouring way too much shampoo since I had a hard time getting a good lather from a small amount. Aside from the overpour, Sexy Hair also had a thick texture. During the next steps in my shower, it felt like so much was still in my hair after I rinsed it out so thoroughly. The thought of dealing with it at 7am did not appeal to me.

The following morning, my hair felt clean, but it still felt like there was a coating of something left on my hair that I disliked. Knowing that there was nothing left in my hair, I let it go and started blow drying. As a result of the blowout I did, I wasn't too happy with how my hair looked. In the end, it didn't give me the shine or the "wow" that the saleswoman claimed it would. It was the waxy feeling on my hands that annoyed me the most when I ran my hands through my hair as I always do. In general, I was not a fan of Sexy Hair Strengthening Shampoo, and I wouldn't recommend it.

After reviewing both products I have to say that neither of the packaging was to high quality standard. Bondi Boost did give their consumers a pump feature that I adore so much but the bottle itself was not something you would see in a store full of different shampoos. As well as Sexy Hair, I was upset with how dull their packaging was. The color of the bottle was not loveable, and the squeeze cap made it harder to like. I feel like both companies could have done more with their packaging to really sell it to consumers who shop for the look of their shampoos and conditioners. As far as ingredients go Bondi Boost has far cleaner ingredients that make for a clean vegan go to shampoo, which is unlike the Sexy Hair. After understanding both ingredients it came to my attention why my hair felt the way it did after I washed my hair with both shampoos. It was because of the Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate that my hair felt that there was a wax coating on it. This was not the case for the Bondi Boost, because it did not include this chemical my hair was able to feel clean and healthy. Overall, I preferred the Bondi Boost over the Sexy Hair due to the reasonings of Bondi Boost having the right advertisements for vegan ingredients and safe hair cleaning treatments included in the list. Ingredients that Bondi Boost included that made it worthwhile was Biotin, Equisetum Arvense Leaf Extract, Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extract, and Acanthopanax Senticosus Root Extract which are all vegan substitutes for what was put in the Sexy Hair Shampoo.
