If you look at all the makeup products you own, how many are from Black owned companies? One day I decided to look at my makeup products and found that I didn’t own a lot from Black brands; this prompted me to do some research about where to purchase Black owned cosmetic lines. But first, it’s important to remember that just because something is Black owned, does not mean it is only for Black people. Anybody can buy and support Black owned businesses, which in turn helps the Black community. It gives people more jobs and inspires them to launch their own businesses. I didn’t want to break the bank in the process of finding these makeup brands, so below are some of my favorite affordable Black owned cosmetic lines.

The Crayon Case

Founded in 2017 by Supa Cent, The Crayon Case has gained popularity from its adorable school supply themed beauty products. Cent created the line with amateur makeup users in mind. Her products are easy to use because they do not require a lot of effort or knowledge on makeup. All of her products will always be cruelty free according to her website. On top of having cruelty free products, The Crayon Case is also praised for having affordable, high quality makeup. When you first open the website, you’re greeted with a chance to receive 10 percent off your first order for signing up to their newsletter. The fun childlike aesthetics of the brand inspires you to try new looks and tap into your creativity.

Mocha P Beauty

Mocha P Beauty is an anime inspired cosmetic line owned by Waifu. Her products can easily catch the eyes of anyone but especially anime lovers. All of her products are decorated with different anime girls and are given fun names and designs. Mocha P Beauty has recently gotten more attention due to their viral TikTok videos and large Instagram following. The brand is also relatively new; it launched in 2018. The brand sells glosses, eyeshadows, eyelashes, lipsticks, glitters, and on rare occasions sells other products outside of beauty. It is still a small brand so products are only available while supplies last.

Beauty Bakerie

The Beauty Bakerie is a slightly older brand compared to the previous brands mentioned. The founder Cashmere Nicole built the brand from the ground up by having her dreams and daughter as motivation. The Beauty Bakerie can now be found in Ulta and Sephora stores but still maintains their affordable status. The company grew its popularity through their matte liquid lipsticks and “sweet treats” inspired product design. This is also a cruelty free brand and has a few vegan products as well. Through the company’s success, the brand has created a charity dedicated to helping foster kids find better homes. You can find where to donate and how to get involved with the charity on the Beauty Bakerie website.

Created in 1994 by Niko Mouyiaris, Black Opal is another brand that kept the Black community in mind when creating its products. They offer products for various skin types and tones. Black Opal can be found in some beauty supply stores, but it’s mainly online.
