Saweetie Wins Halloween 2020
Halloween just passed and although we are still in the middle of a pandemic, that didn’t stop celebrities from dressing up and celebrating. Every October, the affluent try their hardest to make sure that their costumes go above and beyond. From fashion references to movie characters, the possibilities are endless when it comes to picking the perfect Halloween costume; celebrities will leave no leaf unturned in the pursuit of a truly iconic look. Over the years, some celebrities have gained a reputation for nailing their Halloween looks, such as Heidi Klum who makes sure she goes the extra mile for her annual Halloween bash.
Celebs like Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé have also nailed their costumes in previous years, making references to iconic role models of their own such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Lil Kim, and Selena Quintanilla. They usually have more than one look per year, given that they likely have a plethora of Halloween events to attend. But this year, a newer face might’ve won the entire holiday.

Rapper Saweetie has been working hard to solidify her role as an It-girl ever since she stepped into the scene a couple of years ago. As a graduate from Fashion Industries High School in New York City, her connection to fashion has always been strong even though she decided to pursue a career in music. But this year, Saweetie decided to take her game to the next level, delivering three show-stopping Halloween looks.
She began the festivities a couple of days before Halloween by recreating a signature look from none other than Mama Ru, the iconic drag superstar Ru Paul Jones. Apart from the extravagant makeup and hair, Saweetie wore a skin-tight latex cocktail dress by latex designer Venus Prototype. The dress was an almost exact recreation of the color-blocked latex dress that Ru Paul wore for a "Ru Paul’s Drag Race" promotional photoshoot.
Without losing steam, Saweetie then gave us a 3-in-1 Halloween costume where she dressed up as each Destiny’s Child member when they shot their album cover for “Bootylicious.” Saweetie really showed us how versatile she is, wearing three different looks corresponding to all three ex-members of the group: Kelly Rowland, Michelle, and Beyoncé. The outfits included a fuchsia polka-dot bikini top, a matching two-piece pink set, and a floral blouse, plus three different hairstyles to match each member to a tee. As if she hadn’t already done enough, all of these looks were just a warm-up for Halloween night.
Covered head to toe in royal blue body paint, Saweetie attended Kendall Jenner’s Halloween birthday party cosplaying as X-Men’s archnemesis, Mystique. Through a combination of blue contour, body modifying appliqués, and a slicked-back ruby red hairstyle, the rapper was able to achieve her mutant-like appearance. Although she picked a character that completely changed her appearance, Saweetie’s curves were on full display at the party. She was accompanied by her mutant beau, Quavo, dressed as Mystique’s on-screen love affair, Beast. Saweetie completely nailed her final Halloween costume, which was also a couple's costume idea.
Even though there is no official voting on which celebrities “win” Halloween each year, it's safe to say that Saweetie would’ve definitely taken the prize this year. By combining her knowledge of fashion and pop culture, she was able to give us three (five if you count all three Destiny’s Child members) unique and show-stopping costumes. As if she wasn’t already a celebrity to pay attention to when she steps out in a look, she can add Halloween expert to her resume as well. We will definitely be looking forward to what bold choices Saweetie decides to make for next year's festivities.
