Parisian Style vs. American Style
When it comes to Parisian style, what initially pops into our minds is the typical beret and striped t-shirt combo… which is still relevant, but Parisian style has so much more of a deeper essence to it. American style can be tied to a timeless pair of jeans. The classic Parisian and American fashion styling have always been very distinct from one another, but continue to always take bits and pieces from their styles. When we go through the timeline of fashion, Paris has dominated the fashion industry for thousands of years. Americans have adopted Parisian tips and tricks when it comes to style, but America's fashion trends have also evolved to become true to Americans.
Parisian Style
The Parisian style truly is all about “less is more.” When reading the FrenchStyle rules, it expresses that Parisian style is all about the basics. A plain white tee is something that you will always find in a French girl’s closet.
Tips: To mimic Parisian style, you should keep it simple with the outfit—only incorporate one statement piece. The difference I find from this in American style is that individuals tend to pile on accessories. If there are too many statement pieces in one outfit, it would be considered a poorly put together outfit in the eyes of Parisians. Balancing an outfit is the key to Parisian style.
When it comes to following trends, the Parisians don’t follow. Parisians like to keep their looks classic, which explains why their style has been the same for decades. Another tip in the Parisian style handbook is to keep it subtle with logos, because it can be seen as tasteless. In the end, a rule a Parisian must always follow by is to look effortlessly chic wherever they go.
American Style
The American style can truly show individual personalities by how the clothing is put together. With American style, you will see a lot of color-blocking and patterns layered. I find America to have a big presence in urban street style. Street style looks are in high demand in America, especially concerning comfy and sporty chic looks. What we see on the streets are comfortable outfits mixed together with dressed-up pieces of clothing. There is a lot of mixing and matching—typically, you can see a hoodie paired with a blazer, or running shoes paired with dress pants.
The American style tends to see people having multiple statement pieces in a single look. This can be funky pants, a funky jacket, and funky shoes all put together in one outfit. These looks are more creative and individualistic, plus trendsetting. When it comes to people and fashion in America, there has been an ongoing obsession with following trends. Americans love to see what’s coming next. It’s always trends after trends, and understanding what new “it” piece or look will be in high demand that season. American style can be seen as more versatile than Parisian style; there is no article of clothing that can’t be used or incorporated into an outfit.
