The Everlasting Eco-Accessory
There are so many accessories that a person can wear—sunglasses, watches, earrings, rings, or necklaces. The newest one that everyone is carrying today is the reusable water bottle. Whether you are team Hydro, Swell, or like me, have a $4 reusable water bottle from Target, everyone today is carrying a reusable water bottle.
Every year, there are millions of pieces of plastic polluting our oceans. Hopefully, everybody is trying to reduce their plastic-use by purchasing an eco-friendly water bottle. However, there are many more things you can buy that’s an on-the-go accessory, making it an everlasting eco-accessory. Below is a list of planet-friendly water bottles, even collapsible ones, coffee or tea cups, and snack containers that we can all purchase to help the planet.
8 oz cup Stojo
Personally, I cannot survive without coffee in the morning. I make some and take it with me every day to school or work using my thermos, but it started taking up a lot of room in my bag. I discovered this collapsible one from Stojo, and I love it. This step is major in helping reduce plastic litter. Start bringing it with you to your favorite coffee shop as well. Some places give you a discount if you bring your own cup, like Starbucks!
que Bottle
Another item that’s perfect for travel is this collapsible water bottle from Que. Take it with you to the gym, work, or just out and about. They have super fun colors, too. Each water bottle has two sizes, ranging from when it’s expanded (a bigger size) to when you collapse it (a smaller size). Also, for every bottle purchased, 10% of proceeds go to protecting one acre of the Rain Forest.
Bee Bagz – snack bags
Anytime I throw away a plastic ziploc bag, I always hear my grandmother’s voice yelling at me to reuse it. These reusable beeswax bags from Bee Bagz are perfect for on-the-go, and are completely plastic free! Use them to carry some snacks or to wrap your favorite sandwich for lunch. They also work perfectly for storing things in your fridge at home, and give your food a longer fridge-life compared to plastic wrap.
Ever Eco Bamboo Cutlery Set
If you’re someone that orders a lot of take-out for lunch, don’t take plastic silverware! Instead, buy some reusable silverware. This cutlery set by Ever Eco is fully made with bamboo and comes in a small cotton pouch. It’ll slip perfectly into your purse, tote, or even your pocket. To take an extra step, tell the restaurant not to bag your food and bring your own bag.
Every time I go out and buy anything with plastic in it, I immediately think of the garbage island in the middle of the pacific. With the new plastic bag ban in New York City, hopefully everyone is trying to be a bit more eco-friendly. All of these items will help our planet. If everyone took these small steps in buying reusable items, then we’d start to see a more plastic-free ocean.
