Bold Liner Took Over Paris Couture Week Spring/Summer 2022
Paris Couture Week has come and gone, and we must acknowledge that the makeup looks were definitely serving. This year’s looks focused on the balance between bold and fierce, but also minimalism with less skin coverage. Designers focused more on the eyes, with bold graphic liners and color. You may think runway makeup is too difficult for the average makeup wearer, but many of these looks are achievable.
Let’s take a look at the makeup from PCW:
Chanel

Chanel took an avant-garde approach to this year’s spring/summer collection. Makeup artist Virginie Viard took inspiration from the 2010 film Black Swan for the Chanel shows eyeliner looks.
A blendable gel liner and an angled eyeshadow brush are all you need to achieve this look. Start off by creating a wing shape across your lid and connecting it to the lash line. Then, create another line coming from the lower lash line. Lastly, extend your inner corner and there you have it, you look just like Chanels’ runway models.
Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier brought the color. Keeping the bold liner trend, this couture collection added color to make the eyes pop. Gaultier’s makeup artist Inge Grognard stuck to a lighter coverage base to make the red eyeliner the statement piece of the makeup.
To create this look, finding a pigmented red liner is key. A great brand for colorful and pigmented liners is Coloupop. Line your eyes with the liner and create a wing that goes straight out. Don’t forget to apply the liner to your lower lash line and waterline as well.
In the first photo, the model’s freckles are left visible. Using a tinted moisturizer will definitely achieve a dewy look while giving your skin some light coverage.
Giambattista valli

Giambattista Valli’s makeup artist Helen Vasnier took a graphic liner approach that was similar to Chanel.
To create this look, a very precise eyeliner brush is important. The goal is to create thin clean lines. Start with lining your eyes first, following the natural shape, and then winging it out. Next, follow the line of your crease and extend it towards your eyebrow. Connect the line in your inner corner as well as liner the lower lash line. Finally, connect the lower lash line to the wing.
The skin appears to be very bare and matte. We suggest sweeping some translucent powder over your t-zone to minimize oils and shine. To complete the look, the model’s eyebrows have a laminated look to them. You can use an eyebrow gel to lift the brow hairs.
Christian Dior

Makeup artist, Peter Philips opted for a more clean look for Christian Dior’s runway show. Applying white liner on the lower lash lines gives the eyes a bright and awake appearance. The sleek hair look and braids allow for the focus to be completely on the eyes.
This might be one of the easiest eye looks to re-create from a high fashion runway show. All you need to need to do to achieve this look is to apply a white eyeliner to the water lash line. Then, use gel eyeliner to follow the natural curve of your eye to get the best results. Finally, wing it out.
All of these bold eyeliner looks made a statement during Paris Couture Week, and so can you. Didn’t think you could become a high fashion runway model in just a few quick steps? Think again. Happy winging everyone!
