Free Your Mind: Songs Of The 60s and 70s
In recent months, we’ve seen a revival of 70s trends. From flare jeans to crochet tops, many of the trends that were popular in that decade are making their comeback. The late 60s and 70s became a pivotal period of change in our society, and factors such as the civil rights and hippie movement pushed for social justice. Americans began to reject the standards that were imposed on them and advocated for their freedom.
The free spirit mindset of the late 60s and 70s was evident in both the fashion and music of this generation; those two factors went hand-in-hand in inspiring each other. I’d argue streetwear is inspired by hip-hop, the same way the “Golden Era” of music impacted the style choices of those two decades. It wasn’t just the music, it was the whole culture around it. It freed people and inspired them to think differently than what they were told to believe.
The cultural influence of music during that time period will forever be remembered and serve as a source of inspiration. To enable that creativity, I’ve created a playlist of some of my favorite songs released in the 60s and 70s. Sit back, and prepare to be transported to the golden era.
