Say Hello to Iris Apfel X H&M — The Lexington Line

Just what our spring needs— an Iris Apfel X H&M collab. to brighten up our spring wardrobe.

The collection was announced last September by H&M, but with the debut date still not set, our anticipation is growing. All we know is that the collection will be released sometime this spring.

Iris Apfel was born in Queens, New York, on August 29, 1921. Her parents raised her with a sharp wit, an individualistic mind, and of course an eye for design. Growing up she always paid attention to clothing and antique jewelry.

She attended New York University to study art history and the University of Wisconsin for art. Apfel started her career working for Women’s Wear Daily and then fell into the interior design world while also falling in love with textiles.

From there she and her husband, Carl Apfel, opened the textile firm, Old World Weavers and would be co-owners until they retired in 1992. Later, her love of textiles would be shown through her recognizable style, thus becoming a fashion icon.

This collaboration will also follow suit and be just as bold as Apfel’s personal style. H&M has hinted at the idea of bright clothing and accessories for all sizes and ages. And with Apfel’s chunky jewelry and large rimmed glasses, we should be expecting nothing less.

Around the time of H&M announcing the upcoming collaboration, Clare Stern from Elle Magazine sat down with Iris Apfel, and a few details were released about the collection. The stunning yellow look that Apfel was wearing during the interview was later revealed to be from the collaboration. Apfel also hinted that this collection will have everything from the jacket to the loafers.

However, Apfel’s favorite piece is a green suit, she claims she loves everything about it. From the sketch below we can clearly see why. Apfel said that the trousers will be priced at $99 and the jacket at $199.

While those prices aren’t for everyone, Apfel has expressed her love for H&M and being able to have high fashion at affordable prices. We should expect a range of pricing to be able to fit everyone’s budget.

Learning about Iris Apfel’s life and her long experience within the fashion industry, we can’t help but fall in love. With spring right around the corner, we are impatient for the collection’s release date and to see Apfel’s wonderful style be available to everyone.
