Stooping With The Staff: Our Favorite Furniture Finds
In case you haven’t heard—shopping second-hand furniture off the street is in, and it’s been given the name “stooping.” This second-hand shopping modality usually takes place in big cities where people are constantly moving in and out, but wherever there’s a street and some funky furniture, you can stoop.
Popular Instagram accounts such as @stoopingnyc post regular updates about free furniture that has been left on the side of the road, including their locations and any updates surrounding the item. This Instagram account has generated a cult following filled with NYC residents that are anxious to get their new favorite piece of furniture. It is always thrilling to see when someone has a stooping success.
This shopping method is also way more sustainable than buying new furniture at a store. Plus, did we mention it’s free?
Naturally, we are fans of stooping ourselves. So, we’ve decided to show you some of our staff’s favorite furniture finds.
Tessa Aldridge - Editor in Chief
Our Editor in Chief, Tessa Aldridge, found these wonderful black frames in Brooklyn, New York. Lucky for her, they were the perfect size for her adorable vintage prints.
Was it a stooping success? We think yes.
Emily white - Web director
This next furniture find is from our Web Director, Emily White. She found this gem in her hometown on Long Island, New York. It was originally painted white, but she decided that sage was the way to go.
It’s safe to say this was a success.
jenna filingeri - styling director
Jenna Filingeri, our Styling Director, found the perfect corner shelf in New Jersey. It is a great size for her New York apartment and displays all of her essentials.
This is obviously a success.
kally compton - editorial & production director
Our Editorial & Production Director, Kally Compton, stooped her coffee table in Brooklyn, New York. She added some magazines and a fruit bowl to fill up this adorable table.
Is it a success? Duh.
Now that you’ve seen some of our stooping successes, we hope that you scour the streets for your next best furniture find. But, if stooping isn’t for you, there are also a ton of second-hand selections on Facebook Marketplace that are calling your name. Well, we are off to stoop some more!
