How To Shave *Down There*: Tips For a Smooth Vagina
Ladies, if you’re here today, this is a safe space. Your vagina is a sensitive, and complicated area to shave. Now, if you don’t want to shave, don’t feel obligated to at all. It’s up to your preference and what makes you feel most comfortable and confident.
But if you’re like me, you may prefer a completely bare vagina. Personally, it’s nice to not have pubes peeking out of your bikini bottom.
If you haven’t mastered your shaving routine, these steps will make you prepared for your next shower.
1. Trim That Bush
Do not be embarrassed if you’ve been letting that hair grow out. It happens to the best of us, especially in the winter. I would recommend buying some scissors like these if you don’t own a pair already. Do your best to cut down the hair as much as possible before getting ready to shave. Just be careful—you don’t want to accidentally snip a little skin.
For some of you, this first step may be all you want. It’s nice to clean up down there once in a while if you don’t want to shave it all off. It’s definitely the fastest and easiest part of the routine.
2. Preparation
If you want a clean shave, you should definitely exfoliate the area. Though you may already have a body exfoliant, now is not the time to be pulling out that Tree Hut scrub. Try to find a gentle exfoliator, such as this body polish from European Wax Center. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; it’s a sensitive area—please be gentle.
3. Get Down to Business
Now it’s time to actually shave. You might shave your legs with body wash if you’re feeling lazy. Most of the time you end up regretting it later because there will be tons of razor bumps on your legs. Don’t even think about trying this on your vagina. You need to be using good shaving creams, such as this one from EOS, or even a conditioner that helps soften the hairs.
When it comes to a razor, it needs to be as sharp as possible. Pubic hair is thick and stubborn, and a dull razor can increase your chance of razor bumps. No one likes razor bumps period, but it’s 100x worse on your vagina.
4. Up, Down, Side to Side
It’s time to put that razor to work! Take your time and be as slow as possible; you have to be ready to dedicate as much time as it’ll take to achieve the hairless look. Have one of your favorite playlists going so that you don’t rush any part of the process.
You want to start with the “up” portion (starting towards your clitoris and moving up towards your stomach) since that’s the direction it grows in. Once you did the best you could, move to going down for any hairs left.
If you’re shaving closer to your labia, I recommend going up and to the side. During this stage, it’s even more crucial to be slow and steady.
5. Last But Definitely Least
If you’re into the mullet (shaved vagina, non-shaved bum), that’s up to you. A little business in the front and a party in the back never hurt anyone.
But if you’re not, I have to warn you, I didn’t promise you tips on how to shave your behind. And to be honest, it’s much better to get this area waxed than to shave it. If you have found a way to make it feel like there’s not an Indian rug burn in your crack, make sure to let me know in the comments.
You’re now all ready to begin your new shaving routine! And just a friendly reminder—only shave if you want to.
