Playing with Surrealism: Moschino's AW'22 Collection

It’s safe to say Moschino and Jeremy Scott have done it again. Since becoming the brand’s Creative Director back in 2013, Scott has yet to fail us with his playful and innovative high-fashion collections—and this one is no exception. Moschino’s most recent collection debuted this past week in Milan.

If there is any brand that knows how to take a satirical approach to the fashion world, it’s definitely Moschino. Over the years, we have gotten collections inspired by fast food, Spongebob, and even baby toys.

For his AW 22’ collection, Scott played with surrealism in order to make this collection come to life. Tate defines surrealism as something that “aims to revolutionize human experience,” which Scott excels at.

An article by Elle reveals that Jeremy Scott intended to transform his “star-studded line up of models into representations of lavish pieces of furniture.” Iconic models such as the Hadid sisters were seen wearing designs that were embellished with utensils, clocks, candles, and everything under the kitchen sink—literally.

The collection remains in a darker color pallet, mostly consisting of blacks, browns, gold, reds, and the occasional pop of blue and bright yellow. In terms of fabrics, the Moschino models walked in everything from velvet to chiffon and leather. The occasional headpiece and embellishments tied the luxe home decor inspired collection together.

Something that Moschino and Scott do exceptionally well is putting funky slants on their innovative and futuristic designs. With a space-age and surrealist vibe in mind, at the end of the show, Scott came on the runway in a spacesuit, paying tribute to the iconic visionary Stanley Kubrik and his film A Space Odyssey (2001).

Time after time, Moschino and Jeremy Scott continue to “wow” us and the fashion industry as a whole. Scott understands how to create playful, out-of-the-box collections while still being respected as a high fashion designer. We can expect nothing less than outrageous runway shows from Moschino in the future. Side note: we’ll definitely be rocking candle head-pieces all autumn long!
