Arrivederci, Milano: Our Favorite Collections from Milan Fashion Week
Milan Fashion Week came and went quicker than you can say “Caio!” As always, Italian fashion houses never fail to showcase collections that are innovative, sexy, and luxurious. From Fendi to Roberto Cavalli, the designers put Milan on the map this Fashion Month.
Let’s check out some of our favorite collections from Milan Fashion Week.
prada
The iconic Italian fashion house Prada played with the idea of “uniform dressing” in its A/W’23 collection. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons sent looks down the runway that were almost identical to one another.
“Pairs of looks followed each other down the runway, with slight tweaks between the two, like the opening duo: Each featured a white skirt and a crewneck sweater, but the colors of the sweaters and the embellishments on the skirts differed,” reports W Magazine.
Much of the collection consisted of formal silhouettes including structured coats, trousers, pencil skirts, and collared tops. Prada also embellished many of the garments with flower appliques, lace, and their signature logo.
The color palette consisted of red, grey, white, brown, teal, and the occasional pop of pink. It’s safe to say that Prada made formal fashionable this Milan Fashion Week—and we loved their little imitation game as well!
Fendi
As always, Fendi never fails to turn heads with its collections. This Milan Fashion Week, Fendi and Kim Jones showcased looks that were punk-inspired and deconstructed, yet elegant and high-fashion. Jones reveals that the collection was inspired by the fashion house’s Jewelry Artistic Designer, Delfina Delettrez Fendi.
Fendi played with miss-match silhouettes such as layering pleated skirts over trousers and styling cardigans on only one of the model’s shoulders. The collection also featured a lot of sheer tops, deconstructed knitwear, and leather jackets, trousers, shoes, and dresses.
Fendi’s color palette remained fairly neutral, using beige, pinks, reds, browns, blues, and creams. However, the greys used throughout the collection had a shimmer to them, making the garments appear a bit futuristic, juxtaposing the familiar silhouettes.
This eclectic A/W’23 collection definitely made a statement at Milan Fashion Week.
Moschino
There is truly nothing like a Jeremy Scott collection for Moschino. Its A/W’23 collection packed the punk, paying tribute to the late Vivienne Westwood. Scott was not only inspired by the British designer, but he also drew inspiration from the work of artist Salvador Dalí and the notion of time, he tells Vogue Arabia.
The collection was filled to the brim with leather on everything from maxi skirts to tops and other small embellishments. Many of the silhouettes were made to appear as if they were melting off the model, but Scott kept them cool by adding gold and mesh accents.
Each model stepped on the runway with black, spikey hair paying homage to Vivienne Westwood’s punk-inspired fashion. The color palette consisted mainly of black and white with hints of pink and lavender.
As always, Scott’s vision was beautifully executed on the Milan runway. We love his devotion to making collections inspired by art and culture.
Roberto Cavalli
Coveted Italian designer Roberto Cavalli brought an edge to Milan this year with its A/W’23 collection. The collection was heavily inspired by the animal kingdom as many of the garments featured tiger, cheetah, and even butterfly-like prints.
Cavalli was not afraid to embellish this collection. Many of the designs were coated in fringe, studs, and lace. The range of silhouettes was vast; the collection featured everything from trousers to maxi gowns, oversized coats, and catsuits.
The collection also featured an abundance of faux fur and leather—and a bit of denim—making it chic and cool. Cavalli’s color palette included lots of browns, blacks, blues, and even a bit of pink. This was easily the wildest collection at Milan Fashion Week—and we’re here for it!
Now that Milan Fashion Week has come to a close, it’s time to say Bonjour to Paris! We cannot wait to see what the French designers have in store for us.
