Olivia Rodrigo Spills Her GUTS in New Album

Rising pop icon Olivia Rodrigo released her highly anticipated sophomore album, GUTS two weeks ago. The album has a 12-song tracklist with two singles, “Vampire” and “Bad Idea Right?” both of which have been well-received by the general public.

GUTS is Rodrigo’s first release following her chart-topping debut album, SOUR, in 2021. GUTS maintains the same pop energy infused with the rock tones and beautiful ballads that defined the earlier album.

Much of the criticism of the album is surrounding the maturity, or lack thereof, of the songs. Some were left wanting a more grown-up sound and lyricism, while others felt the songs accurately reflect the experience of being a 20-year-old woman.

Rodrigo combats this criticism with songs like “teenage dream” that speak directly to the feeling of being acutely aware that she is on the cusp of growing up but has not quite gotten there.

Despite some backlash, GUTS has become highly successful within the first two weeks of release, debuting at the top of the Billboard 200. This album has solidified Rodrigo’s place as a big voice in the industry.

Rodrigo announced the GUTS World Tour this past Wednesday and added 18 more dates due to high demand. She will be touring North America and Europe for a total of 75 shows in 54 different cities. Supporting acts on the tour include The Breeders, Chappell Roan, PinkPantheress, and Remi Wolf.
