Micro Bangs Make a Come Back In 2024: Have They Transitioned from Being a Fad to Trendy?

In the past, a woman's beauty was determined and controlled by others in society. A woman's appearance was supposed to please the eyes of others. This changed very quickly, especially going into the 1950s when micro-bangs better known as "baby-bangs" were introduced.

Women reclaimed control over their beauty with interesting hairstyles like cutting their bangs very short to frame their faces and make them look youthful. The first actress to wear micro-bangs was Louise Brooks. She was the first to make a statement and inspire other women including Bettie Page.

Micro-bangs became popular among celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, Joanne Woodward, and Audrey Hepburn. Although this trend was popular, it was considered a “fad” in the 2000s when edgy colorful highlights and styles became trendy.

Going into 2024, beauty in fashion has been on another level, especially with hair. Some hairstyles were left in the past to be forgotten while others have made their way back to trends. The 90s blowout bob, pixie cut, wolf cuts, and micro-bangs have been all over social media.

There are a long timeline of hairstyles that have made their entrance into fashion. In the 2000s, hairstyles like flipped ends, hair crimping, pigtails, high ponytails, pixie cuts, highlights, and more iconic hairstyles were favored by many people. What popularized these hairstyles were celebrities like Britney Spears, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Nicki Minaj, and Lady Gaga.

Micro “fringe” bangs recently went back into style, after Zendaya wore them in Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2024 with her multiple stunning outfits. Zendaya's “baby-bangs” have everyone talking about the trend again in 2024.

Since baby bangs have made their way to red carpets, many celebrities have followed the bold look. Name include Kristen Stewart, Zoe Kravitz, Emma Waston, and Florence Pugh. Seeing celebrities and influencers online wearing a micro-bang with confidence is part of what has encouraged many people to partake in the trend.

There are multiple definitions of beauty in today's world and throughout history. Not all trends need to be followed, but we are loving the return of this one! Micro-bangs have become a bold fashion statement for women and have been in and out of style since their first introduction.
