Point of View by Mikayla Noguira: Is it just Another Influencer Brand?

Mikayla Noguira, one of TikTok’s most popular beauty influencers, with over 16 million followers on TikTok, recently announced that she will launch her own skincare and beauty brand, Point of View. She rose to fame during COVID-19 with her unique techniques on how to do makeup, standing out during a time when clean girl makeup looks were popular.

Mikayla was among the very few influencers who gained a following for doing full glam looks. However, she has faced many controversies and cancellations for allegedly doing undisclosed sponsorship and lying to her audience. But with that, she revealed this past week that she is coming out with her brand. Let's examine some of her controversies and new brand to determine if this is just another influencer brand.

In 2023, the internet exploded after Mikayla posted a sponsored video showing L'Oréal's Telescopic Lift mascara, making her lashes look like she applied fake ones. However, soon after the post, people started calling her out for clearly cutting the video and adding false lashes to make her lashes look fuller. This situation was known as Lash Gate, with many netizens, make-up artists, and influencers pitching in with their opinions. Not only did she allegedly get caught lying, but she also disclosed that it is an advertisement in her captions that many people don’t read. After this backlash, she has consistently been called out for doing undisclosed sponsorships and lying about them. Therefore, she started being known for lying in her reviews, with many people not believing her.

Fans were shocked on March 12th when she posted a TikTok video announcing the debut of her brand, Point of View. The brand is launching on March 26th on its website with five skin prep products that create the perfect flaw base for your makeup. The first step is Drench It, which is a hydrating milky toner with 60% fermented rice water and peptides, then Drip It, a glowy and hydrating serum; Whip It is a thick barrier-boosting moisturizer; Glaze It, which is a tacky primer and finally Amp It, an ampule lip treatment. According to Mikayla, all of the products are made in Korea and have been in creation for the past two years. The price range for her brand has not been released yet.

Many long-time viewers are excited to try her products, but there is still a lot of tension and controversy about whether Point of View is a brand that should be supported due to the founder's problematic past. The launch and product reviews will soon determine the success of Point of View.
