Breaking Down Airtags: Who Has Your Location?
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “you never know who’s watching you.” Whether you like it or not, it’s true, and Airtags may be a huge contributor to this issue. Safety is a major topic of conversation amongst women, especially ones who are constantly on the go. Recently, these small tracking devices are ruling safety discussions. We are here to tell you everything you need to know about Airtags.
Women have been finding these Airtags in discreet places such as their bags or the bottom of their car. Airtags are tracking devices produced by Apple, it was designed to work as a key and personal item finder. Unfortunately, people have been taking this product and using them for their own ill will.
A young woman named Erika found an Airtag placed on her and decided to share her experience on TikTok. She started the video by showing a notification that was sent to her phone. The notification read, “Unknown Accessory Detected.” Later, she discovered that the bottom of the notification suggested calling her local law enforcement if she was feeling unsafe. Erika continued to talk about her encounter with the infamous Airtag and mentioned how she heard of this happening to other women as well. Using the green screen feature on the app, she showed her followers how the Airtag tracked her location to every place she went to that night.
It wasn’t until four hours after the tracker was placed on Erika that she got the notification from Apple. She went on to mention that she was with her boyfriend that night. The couple did the responsible thing and called a non-emergency police line, however, they were unsuccessful. “They literally did nothing. They said to call if someone hurts you,” Erika states in the video.
Being upset as one would be, Erika reached out to Apple who informed her that they never saw a notification where the server couldn’t be found. But, they did tell her that they would contact their engineers and get back to her in a few days. Wrapping up the video, she asked her followers for any suggestions on what to do and warns them to be wary of these tracking devices.
Although Erika’s encounter wasn’t resolved, some people were able to have this issue taken care of. Ashley Estrada was able to get the Airtag unconnected from her iCloud. She found the item in the license plate of her car but was able to work it out with Apple and the authorities.
Some people also use the device to track cars in hopes of stealing them. Women are not the only target for these tracking devices, so it is important that everyone keeps an eye out for Airtags. Though they are small, it is important to sift through your belongings after a day or night out. We hope you all continue to say safe and aware while you’re on the go.
